What makes this club?
Easy answer really the fans and the clubs history. So why the question? Well it is clear isn't it? Sullivan, Gold and Brady have USED the fans and the history to get what they want. Profit at little real expense and a chance to fuel their own narcissism. West Ham suffered at the hand of the Icelandic takeover, so in step the life long supporters and saviours of our club. They claim they invested, they managed the club out of virtual ruin, they got a stadium for peanuts and they increased the marketability of West Ham. All this a journey where the fan base and club history were used to fuel the owners drive for their own personal profit.
So wind forward to the debacle we are in now. Promises of the next level, competing at the top with a world class stadium, a manager (originally) expecting to bring back the West Ham way and premier proven players to drive success. Now when we have quality players, what do we do, we destroy them. The Payet saga wasn't all about his own personality but what is clearly happening in the board levels of the club, BROKEN PROMISES.

Now you will all hope they sack Bilic, and invest in someone better. But supposedly we got a World Class keeper, a proven veteran at right back and a classy forward who has developed success since his early days at Man U. Added to this an expensive Austrian who would bring flair and vision and some young lad who we cannot pronounce the name of who is brilliant but not playing. Supporting all this investment is a group of great young players who will never get a chance and will get more and more disillusioned on where their careers are going.

But while we look to players for excuses, the manager for lack of ideas, we realise that at the core is a bigger problem, THE OWNERS. Note the word owners, they feel they own the club, yet their business is built on the fans and the club history, something that is great and cannot be denied. But there will come a point when none of this matters any more while the club reduces year on year to satisfy Gold, Sullivan and Brady.

Whatever we want them to do, whatever we think of them, and whatever actions they make, they do not give a shit. They have made their fortunes through using people, in industries where opinions of them doesn't matter. It is their business, and they know what is marketable. While West Ham remains marketable, they will make money, when the day comes it doesn't they will sell.

Remember they are the owners and you make them money. Simple.

A profit isn't a profit until it's realised.

And yet he himself has probably made millions out if the ownership of West Ham. As a business person that is a result. It may in fact be hundreds of millions. If I was as shit as him I'd probably wear shit russian clothes as well.

Re: What makes this club?
I once worked for the bloke who helps Sullivan and Gold dodge their tax- a very, very rich ex-lawyer who happens to be a genius at just one thing- evading the tax man.

The problem is, when you are that rich you get full of hubris. When my ex-boss asked me to do something I considered difficult he always prefaced it with 'it's a piece of cake- a child could do it'. It basically meant 'I could easily do your job but it's beneath my dignity so I pay you to do it'.

Anyone who ever questioned anything he ever did was quietly fired so nobody ever DID question him. So what you end up with is an extremely rich man who GENUINELY thinks he could literally do any job in the world better than anyone else.

When it came down to it and he tried anything else he was shockingly bad at it but nobody ever told him it was shit. He literally lost millions in failed business ideas but it didn't matter because he could always make more money out of the one thing he was good at.

The closest I've ever seen to my old boss is David Sullivan, a man my old boss knows well. They are scarily similar people and I shudder when I see him in charge of the club I've supported all my life.
