What is the point of Andy Carroll
Today he was so lucky not to be sent off, he's learnt nothing from being sent off earlier in the season, 1 minute in he jumps on the run leading with his elbow splitting their CB's nose, bllod everywhere and very lucky not to at least get booked.

He then petulantly kicks out at one of their players, he then did it later on in the first half.

His stats this season are no goals, he has by far the worst pass accuracy in the team and the worst shot accuracy rating.

Oh and he slagged us off, apart fromt hat he's great!

A lot of point if he's fit and played in the right way. At WHU neither has applied for very long.

With the perfect blend of skills, organisation and system around him he scores goals when fit. Er ....

He's use to hearing Bilic big him up non-stop like he's Marco Van Basten, but he can kiss goodbye to those days now. Cunt needs to start performing.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
i think carroll should convert to being a permanent defender as he's an ideal lump to have at the back and aint too bad when defending.

and get in a nippy twosome up front instead.

Been a spanner in the works since we signed him.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
Lovely through ball for Kouyate as well, decent performance from him and can see him scoring goals soon, just needs a half decent chance and he'll stick it away.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
I think he'd make a decent centre half, provided he had someone quick around him to mop up the pieces (and blood).

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
Probably includes last night when he had to boot the ball back to the keeper. I dare say there has been 2 similar incidents.

Opta says 3 on target.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
Apparently he is yet to have a shot on target this season.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
I think he is still pretty good on set-pieces. And defending them.

Just had a look at shots per 90m from set-pieces (including those who shoot from direct free kicks). Carroll was 5th in the league last season, 10th the season before.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
So he isn't any good at set pieces any more. So he draws a defender to him - big fucking deal.

>>> When was the last time Carroll was any good from one of our set pieces?

Well at a minimum he will draw the best marker in any set-piece. That creates opportunities for others.

This is top shit from Barney ROnay:
"Andy Carroll also played, although playing is a rather gentle verb to describe what Carroll does on a football pitch these days. A lack of mobility has left him snorting and gasping, always a little short. Carroll does not play football. He inflicts it. He wreaks football. But for a while he really did put himself about, chopping windpipes, winning headers, crashing into the advert hoardings, appearing dramatically in the centre of things, like the fuselage of a burning Messerschmitt tumbling from the skies."

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
Can't believe that Moyes is sticking with this useless lump.
With the Geordie clodhopper in the side we've always played ugly, one-dimensional football, no matter who's the manager.

This season he's not scored and doesn't look like scoring, so what is the fucking point of playing him. He lumbers around crashing into opponents, and whilst he does contribute defensively at dead ball situations, at the other end of the pitch where he's supposed to produce the goods he's pitifully inadequate.

I don't care who replaces him, 'cos whoever it is we'd play better football.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
Carroll is good from set-pieces in attack and defence. We are hugely reliant on set-pieces. For that alone I think currently he has to play. I don't consider Hernandez or Sakho realistic replacements for that - however Antonio as a makeshift striker might be.

I share the despair at the pattern of play in the opposition half, it is so one-dimensional to simply put crosses into the box on the basis that a couple a game might drop right for you. I'm just not sure it's a viable approach in the modern game. My hope is that Moyes is using that as a simple basis for simply bringing the team back from the depths, but that over time he will introduce something better.

Re: What is the point of Andy Carroll
There was one bit where he tracked back to defend, covered a lot of ground. He put in shift.
