Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
In defence of Carroll (who is a very good player who like the rest of the team is sadly lacking in confidence) when he was replaced at Watford by Sakho (another very good player) how much of the ball did Sakho see?

I don't remember him having a touch in about half an hour. Our forwards are extremely isolated because our midfield is so immobile.

Hopefully the first thing Moyes did on Monday was make sure Kouyate and Obiang's boots were on the right feet and tied their laces. THAT is how 'back to basics' we need to get.

Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
Basically every striker we've used in the last two seasons has looked dogshit most of the time- even Hernandez.

The service all our strikers get is APPALLING, and they are frequently left with the simple choice of staying up front alone and isolated with not much chance of the ball getting to them in any kind of situation where they can do anything productive, or they drop back to try and get involved which also has a negative effect on their game in terms of getting on the ball in or around the opposition box because they are basically in midfield or on the wing.

Carroll is part of the problem, but our real fundamental problems also run far deeper and all our strikers, including him, would have far greater success if they were playing on a team which actually delivers them the ball in situations where they can do something with it other than flick it on or pass it backwards.

Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
looked so poor this season but in all the games he has played I am trying to think when have we given him a decent delivery.

Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
Carroll needs to wise up but equally our team consistently leaves players exposed and surrounded by 3 or 4 opposition players hacking at them.

No one stretches the opposition with a run or gives our player on the ball an outlet, this makes Carroll look marooned. There's been too many times where it's Carroll putting the cross in ffs.

By the time Moyes works out that Carroll is useless we will be relegated. Doesn't he watch videos of the games earlier this season, probably still got a betamax.

I think we all know this won’t work tonight, we need pace up front.

Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
He makes us so one dimensional. The modern game and simulation ( cheating we used to call it) means players like Carroll are pretty much outlawed from the game now. Crouch is possibly the exception as he is a much more intelligent player and much better footballer ( passing and touch ).

Moyes needs to be prepared to change it quickly if, as I expect, it does not work.

Of course, Carroll's inability to move means we have few outlets for midfield who already are limited ( Nobes mobility, Obiang's average pace and erratic passing and Kouyate's inability to pass and control the ball at a level that is premiership quality).

He has Ayew as his only new option and Rice. He needs to play Rice either defence or midfield IMO. He can at least pass and control the ball.

Will we finally learn that we are vulnerable to the counter attack when we attack teams especially at home. Do not commit too many forward and perhaps leave a couple ( Obiang and Kouyate if he is in midfield) to hang back. Trouble is Kouyate , Obiang , Ayew, Arny, Lanzini all look to get forward. Noble not so much but either way we have to be wary of Vardy and Albrighton's pace to name but 2. We play as we have Leicester will pick us off as Brighton and Pool did.

... or running 15 yards full pelt to smash your elbow into the oppo'... yeah really picked on by the refs... Ha Ha ha!!!

El Scorchio 4:03 Fri Nov 24
Re: Moyes set to with Carroll
Yes he definitely does have to learn not to rise to it.

That's what's really disappointing. He must have been reminded so many times by managers over the years that he's going to be a target for oppo players. He gets lumps kicked out of him regularly and I can't blame him for getting angry when the refs never do anything about it because he doesn't throw himself to the ground crying, but he can't go round kicking out in retaliation.

I thought Watford got away with a lot of cynical play, not least on AC. But he's got to be smarter than that.
