Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays
Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays under the terms of a new broadcast package from the 2019-20 season.

Broadcasters will bid for rights to show 200 live matches, more than 50% of the league's 380 games and an increase on the current deal's 168.

The new package will also allow successful bidders to broadcast rounds of midweek matches in their entirety.

It will replace the existing record £5.136bn TV deal struck in 2015.

The new kick-off times on Saturdays will likely see matches shown at the same time as prime-time favourites such as Strictly Come Dancing and X-Factor.

All matches in three midweek rounds per season, and one Bank Holiday round per season, will be broadcast live.

The three-season agreement for 2016-17 until 2018-19 represented a 70% increase on the previous £3bn deal.

Sky paid £4.176bn to show 126 matches, including the first Friday evening games and both Sunday packages, and BT paid £960m for 42 games.

No single buyer will be allowed to acquire more than 148 matches per season. The auction for rights is to be held in February, according to reports.

Rights to show free-to-air Premier League highlights will form part of a separate broadcast package.

What can broadcasters bid for? (all times GMT/BST)
Package A: 32 matches on Saturdays at 12:30
Package B: 32 matches on Saturdays at 17:30
Package C: 24 matches on Sundays at 14:00 and eight matches on Saturdays at 19:45
Package D: 32 matches on Sundays at 16:30
Package E: 24 matches on Mondays at 20:00 or Fridays at 19:30/20:00 and eight matches on Sundays at 14:00
Package F: 20 matches from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme
Package G: 20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes

There's only 8 matches on Saturday evening so there's a lot of flexibility in the scheduling.

They will probably show a few in August when there's no Strictly/X-Factor on the other sides and a few in January when the Saturday evening schedules are quieter. There's also a requirement in most of the packages for each club to be shown a minimum of 5 times so a Saturday night up against Strictly is an ideal opportunity to show Stoke versus West Brom to help use up the quota.

There's 380 games in the premier league season, or which 192 are included in that bundle, meaning 188 left over. Already less than half will be Saturday 3 pm kick offs, and that's before you start moving games to Sundays due to clashes with the Europa cup, etc.

If those figures are right Sky are paying £33 million per game. Good grief!

Sky do a decent job with the Championship and use the games there to fill the gaps where BT have the Premier league.
They often have a Saturday night (5.15? 5.30?) Championship game against BT's Premier league on and quite a few Friday nights and early Sundays.
The thing they did last December where they televised a game each day for about 10 or 12 days was a good idea.

None of the other networks (BT, BBC, ITV etc) give a flying fuck about anything outside the PL so fair play to them.

Tea - the deals that are signed for the Championship are based on times not wanted by the Premiership so being relegated won't help things.

Cutting yet another tie with the game's working class roots.

As selfish as it sounds/is, those of us attending games in the 60s, 70s & 80s really did have the best of it.

PB
That's just televised games so there will be 3pm games but not televised. YET

I notice that Package F & G involve three rounds of fixtures where someone will be able to show a complete round of Bank Holiday and midweek fixtures. Presumably the midweeks might be 5 on a Tues and 5 on a Wednesday ALL shown.
I'm guessing this is a tester for eventually showing all Saturday 3pm games at some point in the future.

Personally I have had more fun watching Colchester and Braintree this season than going to West Ham (which I won't because I won't go to that shit hole and I can't get away tickets)

Re: Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays

I absolutely agree with this.

Me and a mate had a conversation a few weeks back about the advantages we as football fans get of watching our team in the Premier League and the only answer I could come up with was a slightly better standard of football at times from us and against bigger and better opposition, of which I don't care about.

Maybe i didn't read that list right, but no Saturday 3pm games rises the possibility of more people sacking it in or the following/creation of a non-league team.

The latter becomes more and more enticing, the more they show contempt for domestic football supporters.

Clash with Strictly and X Factor means a nightmare for those that cohabit with gays and/or people with no taste.

Have fans that go been asked their opinion?
Obviously not
The awful 12.30 slot we are in tomorrow obviously isn't for fans who go or fans or other teams who are on their way to their own teams match.
Is purely for the ASIAN TV market so should put Man U in there every week

Re: Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays

Well it is dead in terms of a game as PL clubs are simpl ybusinesses now with NO CONCERN for the fans. It isn't all about money, surely the gamemeans more than that?

Personally I would rather see us in the championship or L1 playing at proper times, in proper stadiums than all this PL bollocks but maybe I am old skool about it

Yep it is really a dead game if we are taking multiple billion pound deals, in excess of the previous deal. Yep a real dead horse.
