Mason Crane selected for the 5th Test in place of the injured Chris Woakes as England opt for two spinners. (pssst ... Alli is the other one if you were wondering).
No call up for Gary Ballance

Mitchell Starc returns from injury to replace Jackson Bird in Australia’s line up

Because the pitch actually did something on the morning of day 2, and Smith dragged on the widest ball in history back onto his stumps to start the rot.

I also believe Anderson and Broad hit the pitch harder than they have to date. It's not because they didn't try; sometimes things physically don't click. I've been there.

Do you honestly believe he was tampering, Sven? Or did you just want to write something in CAPITALS rather meaninglessly?

Opening bowlers :
Anderson & Broad 920 wickets in 246 Tests
Cummins & Bird 70 wickets in 18 Tests

Experience?

AND BALL TAMPERING

If the pitch was so dead, how did our pea shooter attack, manage to bowl the convicts out for 320 odd, 1st innings?

PD, And all Aussies think he was a cunt as well I was told????, but ive never met anyone or seen any mention anywhere of it, if anything the name Bradman is revered here like the name Bobby Moore is in England when it comes to Football.

Like I said earlier watch the BT Packer film/doc... it was quite eye and ear opening what some of the Aussie greats were saying about the Don... this was obviously the ACB Don sitting as Chair not allowing Aussie players earning a decent wage rather than the 99.94 playing Cricket Don...

Anyway good piece here

Re: Australia V England - 4rd Test Melbourne
It's a damning statement about he quality of the pitch when the home team decides to play elsewhere!

During my time at the Oval parts of the square were dug up each year because the strips were dead, and I do mean dead. Firs day of a 3 day game and the ball was going through to the keeper at ankle height.

This led to some very result pitches. As the new soil 'bedded' in we'd find ourselves playing on pitches that had circular cracks the size of large dinner plates; one or two on a length etc etc.

I managed to avoid the game against Hampshire, which featured a bowling pairing of Malcolm Marshall and Kevin Emery. Our fourth innings chase was 105, and we lost by 3 runs. Our number 11 got hit on the helmet twice by balls that hit the furthest end of the crack from him and took off. If it hit the close end it hit you on the ankle, so you can imagine how much fun batting was.

There were two reasons why the pitch wasn't condemned. Firstly, it was the Oval, and secondly the ball didn't behave erratically throughout the game. The fourth innings was truly horrifying to watch, whether you were playing or not.

There is going to be a review of the MCG pitch which is one of the first group of drop ins and seemingly past its sell by date.
I understand Victoria have drawn their first 3 games on it and are planning to move their Shield games to the renovated Junction Oval to get a better surface

The groundsman is leaving for a new job at the Gabba and the guy who looks after the WACA is starting in the new year.

Basically the problem is not enough clay in the soil but hopefully the drop in technology will have improved when they dig it up and start again.
Boring boring wicket and Starc is probably not too unhappy he has swerved this one.
He, Peter Handscomb & Ashton Agar have been added to the Melbourne eleven for the Sydney Test.

I think the groundsman won that test. That pitch was identical to the things they play on in the UAE, except it didn't do anything on the fifth day.

Effectively 14/4 at lunch
The door needed to be shut especially as playing for a draw hasn’t been Australia’s strong SUIT
Only the second draw at the MCG in the last 20 years
Maybe England should have played a spinner

Only on WHO!

Smith (who is a bit of a cunt) onto 67, hes going to get that ton isnt he, just so those cunts in the press and pundits can wet themselves hes the new Bradman.

So according to this board the great Bradman is a cunt now as well?

Never known a place full of so many perfect people. Truly.

Sydney_Iron 4:33 Sat Dec 30
Re: Australia V England - 4rd Test Melbourne
Well the draw is almost inevitable unless something gives, but even then 6 wickets and even if its a small run chase to get is still a huge ask with only a couple of sessions left.

Hope Smith does not get another ton, im sick to death of the wankfest going on over here about him.

Re: Australia V England - 4rd Test Melbourne
Steve Smith to a half century, as much as this bloke is a bit of a cunt (bit like Bradman according to some!) he is a superb cricketer and about the best batsman in the world right now.

17 run lead know, 4 wickets down, if the tail wags England may have an uphill task to win this.

Fuck all in the pitch. New ball though.
