Carroll off to Chelsea?
......being reported by a few outlets, thought it was a joke at first but it seems a genuine story ( after googling) from somewhere, whether true or not?
Seen a loan mentioned from one source and a fee of 27m from another.

Antonio was linked too last season.

I do think it seems logical to me. The recruitment department at a club like Chelsea are assessing the market. They probably enquire after a bunch of players who fit a template as options. Doesn't mean they end up buying them, but it's a sensible policy.

When he's on form he's a great player but he is not an asset. I love watching him because he's a complete nutcase but he is hardly on the pitch you have you heart in your mouth when he slides on his knees when he scored the other night. Even if someone would give us £10m deffo take it

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
We didn't fluke it at all with Payet. His stats were there all to be seen and, through agent contacts etc., we managed to strike a great deal.

I believe that Payet had the highest number of assists in Europe when we signed him and I can only assume that because he was in his late-20s, and not early-20s, that the top clubs didn't want to move for him so he came to us.

Any player that has impressive stats should be considered. Of course, they need to be watched several times as well. To simply reject players simply because they have no Premier League experience is fucking idiotic to say the least.

Loan's best...

He's bound to get injured some time this month, and, if we time it right, we can get him back when he's recovered...

Enner Valencia was off to Chelsea a couple of years ago, that was in the January window as well, and turned out to be complete bollocks!

I wonder if this is from the same "Source" ?

If the fakes offer £15m take it .

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Payet was too old to deliberately fuck around with his own form, and has found it difficult to get back what he deliberately threw away?

How sad, if true.

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Getting off topic, but it could be argued we absolutely fluked it with Payet. He's not been spectacular back at Marseille. Lanzini, yes, our one real overseas score in recent years.

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Samuel and Curis agree to sell £35m rated Barkley to Chelsea for £15m so long as Chelsea stump up £20m and a bumper pay day for their biggest earner Andy Carroll

It’s a wicked web

Buying abroad works if you know what you're doing - our balance of gems and duds seems to indicate that someone who knows what they're doing has equal say with someone who doesn't.

But ask someone In The Knower than me (who could be more Out of The Know) about who these people are, and which is which.

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Payet and Lanzini, for a start, turned-out pretty well?!

You won't go anywhere by just signing players well-known to other clubs' managers, coaches and scouting staff. The opposition then knows what to expect. The players' strengths, weaknesses etc. It's as simple as that.

Also, you get much better value for money abroad than you do for players based here - especially British players who are typically ridiculously overpriced.

You need an injection of unknown quality from abroad to give your team a competitive edge. Of course, there's a risk of some of these players failing but, if you do your scouting properly (and your scouts are trusted/know their stuff and are great at analysing and reporting on players) then you can find some absolute gems and bargain buys.

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Dicksie! Zaza and Calleri aren't exactly good adverts for Sullivan's attempts to unearth foreign gems are they? PROVEN foreign league players - even as old as Bacca - cost a packet or won't come. I'm not defending Sullivan, but landing goalscorers is not easy. For any club.

?

Didn't we recently try the non-Premier League strategy with the like of Tore, Feghouli, Zaza and Nordveilt. All had decent records in Europe.

Pretty sure our most recent strategy was in direct response to that.

The other thing is it seemed like any striker in Europe that was valued at 27 mill range ended up around 40 mill for us.

dicksie3 8:41 Fri Jan 5
Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
You can easily get a top quality striker for £27m or whatever by looking elsewhere in Europe or in South America.

We have thick, narrow-minded, idiot cheapskate wanker owners though who only want to sign players based here or those with previous Premier League experience. That then leaves you somewhat restricted with what you can buy.

It's an absolutely fucking brain-dead transfer strategy and means that you basically have zero chance of unearthing some gems and landing bargains.

There's a great chance of stagnating as a club or even going backwards with such a transfer strategy.

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Imagine Carroll being in a team where he doesn't have to drop back into midfield to get involved and can just hang about up front as a striker.

WestHamway I know, but they are saying Carroll is valued at £9m?

Re: Carroll off to Chelsea?
Apparently they've signed Barclay for 15M which i think is outrageously low, so i doubt Carroll would command anything like 27M even if this was in any way true.
