Re: Is Arnautovic reaching Payet proportions yet?
I never understood the "Payet struggled in the next season" argument. At the time of his "struggling" he still created the most chances in Europe (whilst playing in a struggling West Ham).

He also scored that incredible solo goal v Boro where he took on 6/7 players and slotted the ball the opposite side of the keeper (better goal than Carroll's bicy) and still had moments of pure brilliance, the robana assist for Michail, free kick that saved us from total embarrasment in that early league cup game and was still laying chances on that no other player of ours was.

Pointless comparing Arnie to Payet but what's the fascination with comparisons anyway?

Just enjoy Arnie for what he is doing now on his own merits as the bloke is on fire.

Normally I’d agree with the shit some people put on here but Arnie looks absolutely unplayable in the number 9 role.
And in truth Payet was superb but he did it in a team playing brilliantly and the next season he struggled in a shit team....in fairness to Arnie he’s single handily picked this team up off the floor and turned the season round since he’s played up front
Only time will tell if this is a purple patch or if this is him making the step up to becoming a top player

If you didn't read this article on Arnie when it came out a few months back, it eludes to the moodiness on the pitch and he says it's just a trait. I guess we shouldn't read much into it.

Arnautovic reminds me of Ibrahimavic in both style of play and arrogance.

I am happy about this.

This is a fucking stupid thread title. You are an idiot P.

On the subject of Arnie and Lanzini's seemingly weird relationship, I reckon Arnie felt a bit miffed that he wasn't getting the quality of service from Lanzini that he was giving Lanzini. But as a partnership they looked brilliant yesterday. Arnie is strange fish though, clearly needs to be loved by the fans and his demeanour on pitch is that of a brooding angry loner. Kind of odd. I like him. He's an absolute monster in this form.

This thread is typical of WHO. One minute a players dogshit the next the second coming.

Lets be clear, Payet was incredible for one season and worth the entrance money. He genuinely became a high profile world star while he was here despite knocking around for years.

Part of that success he had was down to the manager and how he let him play and also part down to his teammates who covered for his deficiencies and often missing workrate. Payet was a flawed genius. A player with technique and vision up there with the very best in the game.

Arnie is a different kettle of fish. He is showing he can be a grafter and a player who can make things happen. He's always had good technique and skill but blows hot and cold. I seem to remember we were interested before he went to Stoke.
At this moment in time he's motivated and having a positive impact in a disjointed team. He's probably hard work in the dressing room for his manager and teammates but the improvement in him since Moyes and his coaches came in has been like day and night.

He's got a long way to go before he can be called a success but he's beginning to show what he can do and why Bilic wanted him.

I think he thought he was fouled, preventing from getting a wonder goal all by himself, and after he'd done the work, Lanzini put the ball in the net.

Probably too cross to celebrate, but more at the defender who made sure that when he fell, it was into him, than at Lanzini.

Geza’s had 5-6 decent games ffs

Might have felt bad about hanging onto the ball instead of putting Lanzini in.

Sorry if covered elsewhere but what was with the sulk after the second Lanzini goal? Was he just hoping to have put it in himself?

In a way that Brighton game where he got singled out for an absolute coating by Gary Neville on the tv (entirely justifiably) might have been the best thing that could have happened.
He’d been sent off at Southampton and been ill / injured and then was playing wide in a front 3 where he was meant to work up and down the line and it was all a bit shit.
He could have spat the dummy and sulked after that and turned into this seasons Zaza but has pulled his finger out and given his all. As you’d expect from a £25m player but there you go.

Even in games where he hasn’t scored ... such as West Brom ..: he has added work rate at the top of the pitch to create things for others.
Also love the way ,like Noble, he makes a point of staying on the pitch at the end at London Stadium and clapping all sides of the ground.
Long may it last.

Didn’t Moyes play Martinez last week, that’s half a million that cost, isn’t it?

Maybe it just took him longer than most to "get" West Ham.

Whatever the reason, may he continue to grow in stature.

Has he got East London Blood?..his granny or something..because he's giving it larger than Noble in that regard.

He really wants to please us doesn't he!

Good stuff

Has Arnautovic transformed from a Bilic signing to a Sullivan signing yet?

To stay up and flourish often takes one great player and an organised team. He’s our great player and Moyes is our organiser

If he does turn out to be a legend we need to give Bilic some credit - we're seeing the player he hoped he would see.

Re: Is Arnautovic reaching Payet proportions yet?
Not yet but if he carries on like this he'll overtake him and could end up a legend like Paolo, only problem I can see is he's playing so well one of the "bigger" clubs will come in for him in the summer

Arnie has been great in recent weeks but Payet was another level, the massive cunt. Glad he’s reverted to type since moving back to France.
