As the season develops survival comes down to strength of squad.
Teams like Huddersfield and Brighton will find it tough.

Saying that we've got some injuries now and we're only a handful of points waway from being back in the bottom 3.
Definitely need to bring in some replacements.

It's pretty tight down at the bottom, anyone of several teams including us are knee deep in it.
My choices are: Swansea, Huddersfield and Brighton.
Stoke, Newcastle and West Brom will barely survive.

Its anyone guess as to who will go this year, each time we get a clear cut candidate they pull a rabbit out of the hat, Swansea this week...........

If i had to pick/punt right know i would still go Swansea and Stoke, and got a feeling Southampton will go as well, but it could be any of 10 the way they are bunched up, all it takes is couple of wins to be mid table, a couple of loses and your right back in the shit.

As long as we survive i dont give fuck.

And having gone a bit shit the owners have backed the new manager by buying Cenk and Walcott for £40-something million

With all the money Everton have spent this year, plus the sacking of Koeman, Everton fans must be seething that their side in in the crap along with the rest of us.

We like a good moan on a decent day, so I can't imagine the whinging hat would be going on here if we'd spent at Everton rates.

With all the injuries we have we won't be scoring many goals, very important we bring in the 2/3 quality players promised. I trust our board are not dumb enough to believe we are safe as we are!

Re: Who's going down? We assess the twelve candidates ,Mirror
34 points and a better goal difference will easily be enough this year. Not only are 12 sides involved the other 8 all have something to play for at present, with the potential for a Europa league spot to go down to 7th (if teams really want to be in the Europa league?). As teams in the 9 - 12 places at present, gradually become safe, then they will have nothing to play for later in the season.

We survived on 35 points in 2009/10. 30 points plus goal difference would have kept us up,

Got halfway through and realised I had learnt nothing from it.

Can't be bothered to read the rest.

"a study of the past five seasons shows the two clubs with the worst goal differences have always been relegated"

What a rigorous study that must've been.

I think what you can say is that none of these teams are doomed and none are safe.
Everyone is 3 games from a crisis and 3 wins from feeling much more comfortable.

3 wins would give us 35 points which may well be enough

you only usually need more when there's one shit side at the bottom cast away taht everyone takes 6 points off

Re: Who's going down? We assess the TWELVE candidates ,Mirror
I wouldn't have put Everton in there in August after the signing they made.

They've only got 2 points from their last 5 games with BFS

This list is no real different from what it would have been in August, and will still be in April.

Obviously Burnley the exception this season.

Swansea looked much more organised v Liverpool and obviously it comes down to finding goals especially in the 6 pointers vs each other.
Which makes no Arnautovic, Lanzini, Carroll, Antonio, Sahko vs Palace, Watford, Brighton etc worrying

Case in point. No goalscorers=relegation.

Re: Who's going down? We assess the TWELVE candidates ,Mirror
Agree Swansea have scored 15 all season.

Was reading an article about Boro last year. Their goals against was better than 9 other teams but they only scored 27 goals

Private Dancer 3:40 Wed Jan 24
Re: Who's going down? We assess the TWELVE candidates ,Mirror
Probably Huddersfield.

First port of call when analysing who may drop is to see if they have goalscorers in the squad...,the likes of Stoke, Bournemouth, Soton won't go down as they have people that can score.
