Buying duty free booze at an airport.
How does it work if you have stopovers?
I'm flying from Buenos Aires to London via Sao Paolo and fucking Paris. Wanna get a decent bottle of Argie wine for my old man in duty free at BA, but will they then let me carry it on as hand luggage on the follow on flights, or will they force me to drink it or throw it away?

You cunts.

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes get how much booze you are allowed to bring into Britain duty free mixed up with the amount you can drink before driving?

On a different note - I took a flight out of Cardiff last summer and noticed they sold a Gillette shaving gift pack in the duty free shop with 3 packs of razor blades in it - now that's asking for trouble - I couldn't take my bottle of water through security but could pick up some blades on the other side.

I tend to buy after I've landed - fuck carrying any more than I have to.

At some airports you can effectively buy at departure and have it waiting for you to pick up at your destination (it simply goes in with the checked baggage/ad hoc cargo and someone recovers it for you at baggage reclaim).

May be worth asking next time you fly.

Yeah it's a cunt of a journey, if it's any consolation you probably would have felt like hat anyway, there's surely a limit to how shit you can feel after a flight like that!!

Yeah the breeze is always hot here, the heat comes from the centre and it's the northerly winds that bring it, like opening a fan oven.

Yeah they'll definitely shut the roof I reckon, enjoy :)

Re: Buying duty free booze at an airport.
Yesterday was fucking ridiculous, even the breeze was hot.
Going to see Foo Fighters tomorrow night, obviously it's now due to rain all day - hope they close the roof!

Boarding pass was checked at Changi when I was buying it, they didn't say a thing. And I was carrying it in it's plastic bag when I went through customs at Melbourne and they were fine too.

Mind you, given the journey I'd had, they didn't want to kick off with me - flight pushed back on time in Singapore, but went back to the gate after sitting around doing fuck all for half an hour, eventually all got kicked off while they tried to fix it, resulting in us leaving 5 hours late. Then had to go to Perth instead to pick up more pilots as the two we had were going out of hours, before finally heading on to Melbourne. Was dead on my feet when I finally got to my hotel.

I also made a complete arse of myself in Changi, but will save that story for the next time someone does a "What stupid things have you done?" thread

A tad warm isn't it ..

Really, every time I've tried and showed my boarding card I've been refused, Heathrow and Asian airports (can't remember which ones done the journey too many times) so they must have obviously changed it as when I returned a couple of weeks ago I didn't even bother trying

Enjoy your malt you bastard..

You have to go through security again at each connecting point, so it will be checked again

joyo 5:56 Mon Jan 29
Re: Buying duty free booze at an airport.
You buy it after check in and security and allowed in hand luggage, as you don't leave any of the airports it won't have to be checked again, fuck me you have done enough travelling to know that..... Bet your steel toe caps will be xrayed though

I'm in Melbourne - no problem at all

Re: Buying duty free booze at an airport.
Not in Melbourne, must just be the Victorian government that are pricks then. They have a duty free shop in the airport between arrivals and customs and they won't sell you alcohol with a boarding card landing here (well they wouldn't last time I tried)

Tried to buy fags for someone as well and the limit is one packet.

fraser - I bought a decent Macallan single malt that you can currently only get at Singapore airport on Friday, brought it with me into Australia no problem

As long as it's sealed and you're not travelling through the US (where the TSA are fucking pricks) then you should be fine

For those flying to India, beware restrictions on Air India and Jet Airways if you have to connect.

You land in, say, Bombay and connect to, say, Calcutta. The Bombay to Calcutta flight is classed as domestic and alcohol in not permitted on domestic flights. So they make you put it into your checked baggage, which can be tricky if there's no room in your checked bag and the bottle is subject to the gentle ways of baggage handlers. You could end up with a rather aromatic piece of luggage.

Wot private dancer said .

They seal it at point of purchase and take a very close interest in a sealed bag at every change.
