I’ve been there, just a day trip to see the temple, which is what the town is about. Tamil Nadu is REAL India. Pure Dravidian.

Re: Thiruvananthapuram
kerala is lovely - but you have to spec up a bit to avoid some of the grimmer sights. parts of st lucia are stunning - my wife is a travel writer so we stayed at jade mountain - that is incredible but very lumpy if you are paying full whack

Flew into Trivandrum a few years back, didn't see much of the city as we headed straight out, but seemed like a standard dirty noisy Indian city. We used it as a gateway to taking a train to Varkala, amazing little beach area, bars and restaurants along the top of a cliff, sitting drinking special tea (it's a dry state so they serve your beer in teapots) looking out to see while eagles fly past about 3ft away is quite an amazing experience. Kerala in general is one of my favourite places in Asia and just one of the many incredible experiences to be had in India.

I had a villa in Tobago (Trinidad's sister island) for about 10 years, which I sold about 3 years ago (I wish I'd kept it but that's another story)

I visited Trinidad most times when I went over so know it very well indeed

Unlike Tobago, Trinidad is not widely regarded as a holiday destination

Some of the beaches on the North coast are pleasant though not in the same league as the beaches in Tobago

The wildlife in Trinidad is phenomenal, probably the best bird life in the world. Trips to Asa Wrights at Arima & to the Caroni swamp reserve are essential

POS shopping is interesting and reasonably priced once you get to know your way around. All the jeans I wear even now are what I bought in POS for about a fiver each, quality & stylish

That said you have to be very careful. POS has one of the highest murder rates in the world.

In the unlikely event that you wander into Laventville on the outskirts of POS, if you are white the chances are you will get chopped with a cutlass (the large machetes some locals use for cutting undergrowth)

Fuel is dirt cheap. Last time I was in Tobago, the pump attendant apologised for the price of petrol going up to 30p a gallon!

My best advice would be to stay in Tobago & take a trip or two over to Trinidad

You can use the air bridge, flights are every hour, on the hour between Crown Point (Tobago) & Piarco (Trinidad) duration about 20mins, which is best if you are going to visit Asa Wrights at Arima & Caroni Swamp

However, if you are planning to shop in POS, I would advise the FAST ferry (there is a slow one & the fast one isn't that fast) which leaves from Scarborough (Tobago) & docks right in POS (Trinidad)

The ferry journey is quite fun in itself & you usually see plenty of dolphins following as you leave POS. The ferry is better than the air bridge if you have much shopping & you don't have to worry about travelling between Piarco & POS by taxi

Been Sri Lanka but was about 1992 so it's probably changed a bit since then.

Been India twice , Delhi . Agra . Jaipur , Goa the Punjab and that funny border closing place .

India is great but hard to recommend due to the poverty .

Vietnam end of the month.

I love traveling .

Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is a very dirty town with litter everywhere, and people shitting at the side of the road.

Don't go to Trinidad It is a shit hole, The only decent beaches are miles from anywhere and all the hotels are in Port of Spain or San Fernando. There is a lot of crime and tourist are a target. The people are hostile and aggressive. The Indian population there could teach the Irish a thing or two about drunkenness, and both the Indians and black people could give training to the BNP about racism. A large percentage of the drivers are drunk. The women are as aggressive than the man and the police are very corrupt. On the roads it is very noisy and unpleasant with loads of cunts playing loud music.and horns blasting.

I've been there about 12 times and would not recommend it to anybody

Been there three times: Kovalam beach, Cochin, Backwaters tours etc. Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is a very dirty town with litter everywhere, and people shitting at the side of the road.

I've been to Trinidad 3 times, They share a huge oil field with Venezuela so they don't need tourists and it's mainly unspoiled.

Best beach I've ever been is Toco beach no one there feels like something out of Robinson Crusoe. North East tip of the island

Re: Thiruvananthapuram
Go, unlikely you will stink the place out. India is the country with the highest number of people practicing open defecation, around 525 million people, although the Indian Prime Minister has just announced a toilet scheme which should bring some relief.
