...and it probably doesn't help that a sizeable majority actually (still) believe that politicians are looking out for the public's best interest.

Aside from the occasional vote, the only use the public have are as consumers to buy the shit big business tells them they can buy, all wrapped up in a bright shiny patriotic flag.

"Hell, yeah! I'll vote for him!"

"What has he done for you?"

"That's not the point, he's a solid American. Gets my vote every time."

Question a politician's motive and you're effectively spitting on the American Dream.

And, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the septics have been flapping about looking for someone they can be better at stuff than, and nobdy's playing ball.

Re: Another school shooting in America

A lot of it comes down to intra-party Republican politics and gerrymandering. In the hard core gop base they will go after anyone seen advocating for greater gun control.

The risk to the gop politicians is not the democrats, it is being primaried.

So although there is a strong majority in favor of tighter gun laws in the wider electorate it matter nothing to the gop.

Americans like to be told what to do without being seen to be told what to do. There's a lot of Germanic attributes in the average yank.

If a leader comes along that can deliver along those lines then it may have a chance.

While there's a majority - or even just a sizeable minority - who see these shootings as "god's will", or "Just one of those things", then the debate, let alone American society, will never move forward.

Americans will follow whatever looks like a leader until the media introduce another one. Repeat ad infinitum.

I don't know why the entire country doesn't just close down it's schools and parents refuse to send their children to school until action is made by the government. Closed schools and Trump and Congress would have to do something.

True BRANDED there would be little danger of that.

The only thing I could think of that Brits would get as passionate as the Yanks do when it comes to guns would be banning Alcohol, although even then some Alcoholics would say " Think of the benefits".
The absolute stubborn nature of some Americans when it comes to gun control is fucking ridiculous they have no perspective or empathy, and common sense can take a fucking jump too.

Re: Another school shooting in America
Guns are the issue. Stabbing would kill less. Of course driving vehicles into people can be very destructive so there's no saying that these fucked up people in this fucked up culture wouldn't still be massively maiming and killing loads of their fellow nationals but guns are the things doing it at the moment. That and drugs.

This whole army thing is a complete red herring. It is not as if you get to take weapons home FFS!

When I was in the cadets (this was a long time ago - number 4 rifle and bren) we were only allowed live rounds on the the range. Blanks only for exercises.

As far as I know you can still join the British army at 16 years old... pretty sure weapon training starts at that age as well... can't play Call of Duty at 16 but can join the Infantry and fire a SA80... mental

Re: Another school shooting in America
You do know you can enlist in the army and marines at 18 over here and fire all the guns you want..

His age isn't an issue..

Re: Another school shooting in America
quoting VH "the idea of selling a semi automaic weapon legally to an 18 year old who can't buy a can of shitty Budweiser is completely fucked up."

nuff said - a very very sad state of affairs

Here the greatest issue is what they come out of school with. Some of the stuff my daughter has knocked up at food tech is terrifying.

I'm not sure find many people arguing in the UK that 58-year-olds were responsible enough to be able to buy assault rifles at Asda.

Been reading comments on You tube from pro gun types. Fuck me they are retarded. As is a huge portion of America on this issue.

No, I'm making a very clear reference to the hypocrisy of the left, in the UK (I've no idea about America), moaning that 18 year olds are not adult enough to buy a gun in a country where guns are legal but 16 year olds ARE adult enough to get the vote.

If you don't understand UK matters, keep your beak out.
