What does Moyes see in Cresswell as a CB?
The bloke's been crap all season and was quickly booted out of the England squad. He can't tackle properly and at 5ft 8in has absolutely no aerial presence in a central defensive position. His only decent ability is as an attacking left wing back.

WTF is going on in Moyes's decision making? Believe me this will end in tears if it continues.

"The only position Milner could play in that system is as a wing back on the left side, more or less what he does for Liverpool."

What rubbish. He'd easily take a centre midfield spot for us.

Re: What does Moyes see in Cresswell as a CB?
aldgate, there's nothing educated about your guess.

Moyes' preferred system is a 5-2-3.

The only position Milner could play in that system is as a wing back on the left side, more or less what he does for Liverpool.

We already have Cresswell, Masuaku and now Evra competing for that place.

Evra is on loan and is of an age where he probably won't get a contract - he's been signed as emergency cover because Arthur is out for 6 games and if Cresswell is injured we have nobody who can step in.

It was an intelligent move by the club made necessary by Arthur's self destruction.

Milner would not get in the team ahead of Masuaku down the left, and with Cresswell as cover we don't need to spend £5m on a player who would demand over £100k a week in wages as a third choice emergency cover. It would make no sense at all.

There is an argument that Milner's versatility means we can switch him to right WB when needed, but even there we have plenty of cover. Zaba and Byram, and then Antonio if both those two are out.

Klopp likes Milner - gives him a lot of game time. My "educated guess" is that Milner will stay at Liverpool until he loses his first team place and then play out his remaining years at a smaller club - West Brom, Stoke, Crystal Place - or possibly in the Championship, as John Terry did.

My second educated guess is that Moyes will continue to look for players who complement his system.

Where the squad really needs strengthening now is cover for those front three - Lanzini, Arnautovic, Antonio. That means players who have pace and like to run at the opposition and take their man on.

Shipping out Ayew and bringing in Mario shows an intelligent re-shaping of the squad in exactly that direction. We lost a player who is slow and frightened to run at an opponent and brought in a player with pace who likes to have a go. Credit to Moyes.

But we need at least one more player in that mould, especially with our injury curse.

And second we need to upgrade the two holding players. Noble, Kouyate and Obiang are all more than decent players but we could use a really top drawer holding player who can break up play and also create.

That said most teams in the league are looking for one.

With the exception of Kante at Chelsea and Dembele at Tottenham there are not many exceptional players in that position.

yep he's not a centre back. Mind you Steve Potts was a good CB for a man of his size.

Obviously shit, seeing as he's created the most chances in Europe this season.

Re: What does Moyes see in Cresswell as a CB?
Trundle, yep let's talk Arsenal shall we?

Player Ratings for Arsenal in last week's North London derby (from Daily Telegraph sport):

Cech 8
Bellerin 5
Koscielny 5
Mustafi 5
Monreal 5
Wilshere 6
Elneny 5
Xhaka 5
Ozil 5
Mkhitaryan 5
Aubameyang 5

And don't even think about saying the Tottenham game was a one off.

Point me to one media commentator, any one, who reported that last weekend's peformance was out of character for this Arsenal team. There are none. It was par for the course for a team seriously lacking in creativity, attacking flair and defensive solidity.

we will bid 5m for milner this summer - it will be laughed at

And you know this how aldgate?

Did you have dinner with Moyes last night? Does Sullivan consult you on transfers?

I can talk about Arsenal if you like, Infidel?

"Ozil has one good game in 4"

If that's the case, then he must be absolute mustard in that 1 game in 4 seeing as he's 6th in the Premier League assist table, along with the likes of Alli, Mahrez and Salah.

I've tried to use STATS that you can relate to.

Two things about Milner. One is that he is as far away from world class as you can get, with the exception of our midfielders who he would easily replace.

I don't think anyone has called Milner world class.

However, he walks into our team, probably in 3 different positions.

You are seriously not well.

Re: What does Moyes see in Cresswell as a CB?
McAvennie

You base your assertion that Milner is a world class player who would walk into the West Ham starting XI on the stat that he has the most assists of any Premier League player against semi-pro teams from SLOVENIA?

And you expect to be taken seriously?

Is this fucking cunt really still adamant that we have a better squad than Arsenal and Liverpool?

That truly is the most mental thing anyone has ever posted about football.
