I'm looking to wander back to LoS in the not too distant future and start working from home 3 weeks out of 4, with one week on site playing teacher.

Just got to get the broadband up in my drum there and you'll find that your dad did have a brother Robert all this time.

I don't quite earn 700 a day, but I work at home, currently in Thailand, so literally don't bother getting out of bed.
Only do about 2 hours a day as well.

A lot of companies have seen sense and are moving operations from India to Poland.

But I don't get out of bed for at least 700 GBP a day. Plus expenses.

Re: Someone furnish me with a job.
I used to be a safety warden when I worked for BHP in the 90s. I was there when the safety culture arrived. Suddenly every trivial activity had a safety aspect. There would be electrical safety guys that would cut the plugs off of any unauthorised electric appliances they found; mostly fan heaters the women had under their desks.
I was just a help-desk pleb then, but every month I would walk around the floor telling managers to clean up their work-spaces. After-all, they no longer needed those multi-volume manuals for long decommissioned computer systems that were precariously stacked on top of their cupboards..
Our bonuses were linked to safety and the whole company was held responsible if there was an accident. So if someone died in a mine or steel works somewhere, us IT plebs in Melbourne had our bonus cut.

Its all covered up Mike and not reported and the families
get paid. I've witness fatalities through falling, cranes and piling rigs falling over, people torn up in machinery. In China, I saw a Tower crane fall over and land on scaffold full of workers. I was on the other side of a huge site. When i got there help out with first aid, it was cordoned off and I wasn't allowed to get. I found its standard practice in China to shut everything down immediately to stop the Peoples Republic of China looking like they don't actually give a fuck about workers or workers rights

Re: Someone furnish me with a job.
I could never "do" H&S - it was apprenticed into me by the GPO & their safety films and is simply my way of life.

I'm part of a network build team at the moment and we don't have enough tower climbing safety equipment that we can get all the installations done on time.

The local PM just outsourced the work to locals who said they has the kit/certification and that was the end of it. Two people have died recently undertaking these activities, but, "not our problem - just find me someone else who can finish the job".

We've actually got a qualified H&S bod on the project, but nobody either consults him or lets him know what they're doing - I'm probably the only person he talks to about work, and that's only because I can supply him with ready made copies of H&S processes that work, so he can actually deliver what's asked of him, and the company can say they have all these processes in place (but no cunt on the team ever reads them).

Makes you wonder how long it will take them to cotton on that making money is only a means to an end. Until then, this quarter's financial targets rule and people become at best burnt-out husks devoid of creativity fighting a losing battle with AI for their jobs.

And corruption in Chinese manufacturing isn't getting any better by all accounts.

Re: Someone furnish me with a job.
The problem in my game with H&S is it's about statistics. Loss time injuries are one. A steel fixer on my job in Taiwan broke his finger putting attack trolly on, the Project manager told me to get him into the office doing photocopying after he's been to hospital so it's not a lost time injury

So the statics is good and keeps the board happy so nothing will improve. All fatalities are covered up with payments to the families. I saw some shit on Linkedin, some arse hole proudly posted that his project had reached 5 million man hours with no lost time accident. The project was in Malaysia so I know that's complete bullshit

Fair enough 67, im looking at it from the Aus/UK perspective were trust me the nanny state is in complete control of all things OH&S!

Not sure I would be too keen to be the OH&S rep in somewhere like Qatar or Dubai, as you say some very dodgy practices and people treated like shit would imagine if you took a role its would either be Brown paper bags or you’re the scapegoat if something goes wrong? And if you did try and take a hard line then with the kind of money involved a workplace “Accident” may see you the victim….…
