Just what the world fucking needs, sad to see Olde Charlie having a pop at Bowie, he really should know better.
Shame you can count on one hand the number of decent tunes the Stones have released since the mid 70s, years of sub standard shit but that's the great 60s bands for you

They released a concert film a few years back from a small theatre show ... Scorsese was involved I think
That’s the sort of show they should be playing not a windswept javelin haven.

In fact, true rockers should be old. All the old blues and folk masters who inspired the Stones et all were at their best once they were old and experienced.

Still rocking over 70 sends more of a message than a 20 something trying to convince us they have hair on their balls and stories to tell.

Age is just a number, jack.

If they can still lift the guitars and drum sticks, and play those killer riffs and beats, then that's all it ever took.

Not too much echo on it either!

Geriatrics they may be but one thing you can be absolutely certain of is that they'll get our shithole of a stadium rocking like it never has before for our home games!

My favourite track of theirs is "Tumbling Dice" from "Exile on Main Street", an album I quite often listen to nearly 50 years on

A big factor of what made them a true rock and roll band back in the day was that they didn't give a flying fuck what the public thought of them.

They most likely don't give a flying fuck whether the public now think they are too old or not. They rebelled as youngsters, as they are now rebelling as geriatrics.

Good on them. They rock because they can, which was always the case. Some little cunt tells them they are too old, they say "FUCK YOU, YOU LITTLE CUNT!"

I approve of them continuing. If they want to, and people are still willing to turn up, then why on Earth not?

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan. They piss over The Beatles any day. Just thinking jumping around stage in your 70/80s is a bit sad now.

I would expect "Gimme Shelter" to be in the top 30 all time best songs.

An American magazine has published its opinion of the 500 greatest rock and roll songs to date. The Stones version of “Sympathy for the devil” comes in their list at number 32.

At 32 out of 500 it certainly seems to me to be one of the great rock and roll songs.

My MATES covers band (the Mint) mainly do a mix of 60's, Mod revival, Brit Pop.... by a country mile the best song they cover is Sympathy for the Devil (saying that Secret Affairs - My World is a close second)... absolute blinding it is....

I think a lot of the problem is the instant return that any company wants from any investment these days. A few decades back, a young band would be allowed a bit of time to develop and build their following, which sadly is not part of the business model now.

A friend who works in the music business recently described their overall strategy as basically finding new ways to keep scraping the Marmite jar!

Re: Stones to play London Stadium
Good for them. Considerably more entertaining than the football we've been playing

I would pay to go to see them if I lived nearer, though the last time I saw them was at Hyde Park all those years ago

The fact is they're still one of the greatest ever rock bands partly because the music industry has produced nothing but shit for the last 30 years!

Dancing boys who can't sing or play instruments & soppy tarts who have become famous by cavorting around in their knickers squawking into a microphone
