So the consensus is that I have a bunch of cowboys in as they have already done a lot of plastering already inside and out.

Re: Is it ok to plaster during the winter?
While the painting poss is in the house I have a question about varnish

House was built about to 10 years Walls about 450mm brick with Teak opening windows 2m x400mm all around the house with double doors. It's still solid and I gave it a cleanup today still looks ok but I want to tart it up a bit. If put a clear varnish over the top of the old varnish would that need light rub down first?

Internal not really a problem ,external usually a no no ,if you do get a good winters day for it i.e. Sunny and you haven't rubbed it up properly by say four o'clock you are in trouble .winters sun normally means frost ,l have seen it next day and it looks like a bathroom window!

Re: Is it ok to plaster during the winter?
I have no experience with plaster but if it is anything like mortar for masonry (masonry cement, regular cement and sand) then any decent freezing temperature with compromise the long term hold.

One reason why masonry is generally a luxury where I grew up.

Plaster cracks very easily..

Temps does play a big part..as does the substrate and prep..

Working with the arroworthy rembrambt oval on trim at the moment..liking it.
The British made fox brushes are a treat as well.

USA made are quality though... Purdy are the go to for many..but not in my case.

Hope you well my friend

Is it ok to plaster during the winter?

No, plasterers only work 6 months a year.

Re: Is it ok to plaster during the winter?
Anything outside involving sand/cement, shouldnt be done if risk of frost, as water in mix will freeze, then when defrosts will crack or blow render/mortar.
If you cant avoid doing it for whatever reason, you can cover up with hessian sacks or similar, which will help.
Inside, should be ok, as long as you can temp up somehow, heating on low etc.

Re: Is it ok to plaster during the winter?
Not a good idea to use heaters, it takes all the moisture out of the plaster, too quick, causing cracking at a later date. Render is different, and you can get waterproofers like "SIKA" that can be used all year around. Good stuff, but not cheap!!!

Re: Is it ok to plaster during the winter?
No but they do programme the works so certain things get done at the right time, and as previously said, they use heaters for internal works.

Sold, I never let the ivy get that well established.

Mine gets to a maximum 1" thick, round up kills it and loosens it, can normally hack it off within a day or two.

For indoors you can do it but it will just stay wet for ages. It's no big deal.

Outside I don't know.
