Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
The midfield is the strange bit.
Obviously finding players like Vieira and Petit isn't easy but he seems reluctant to find anyone even approaching that level or style.
He has replaced Flamini with Xhaka though
And still has Elneny up his SLEEVE

Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
He did well enough for a while, replacing the English defence with the usual sort of mix of internationals with English players - Lehmann (German) in goal, signing Sol Campbell, signing Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Lauren, etc.

But you're right, he then went entirely off the rails. Very strange.

Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
When Wenger came in he seemed to have the formula :
Solid hardworking English defenders & keeper
Strong powerful but skilful midfielders like Vieira & Petit
Skill and talent of Henry , Pires with workers like Ljungberg etc

Why on earth he has abandoned that for a bunch of soft ladyboys in midfield & forwards plus bearded defensive incompetents only he will know
They have no leaders and no one who seemingly gets angry with underperforming team mates.
It’s all too nice and easy with Uncle Arsene

I have always said they never had replaced Viera

Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
An Arsenal acquaintance of mine who is a long term ST holder reckons that their decline from generally being one of the top two EPL clubs dates from the time Patrick Viera left.

PV has never been replaced in terms of both his playing and leadership abilities.

Let's be honest Arsenal have been in decline since Wenger had to replace George Graham's defence.
Hasn't a fucking clue how to get his teams to defend

The good news is that Man City will have won the league by the time they play us on the weekend between the two Champions league semi final legs.

Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
I would be staggered if Wengers' payline is not linked to retained profit for the trading year. Just as it ought be for any CEO, trouble is that he is a football manager - there lay the issues, will they bin a dividend machine and replace him with a bloke who will want every last penny spent upon the side?

Oh and fuck me, just missed a penalty - comic

Re: Arsenal v Manchester City
Arsenal are in no position to complain about the difference in cost between the squad. They’ve got £300 million parked in an account doing nothing. Trophies aren’t given for the size of your bank balance and proper football clubs raise money to invest in the team, not in a vanity balance sheet.
