What’s the future for Reece Oxford For Sale?
A young man with a prestigious talent that sadly seems to be going to waste. Can he be turned around ? What happens next?

Oxford for sale

CandH Exclusive

West Ham are ready to sell Reece Oxford should they receive an offer of £10 million or more.

With central defenders Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuana, Angelo Ogbonna and Declan Rice all part of the first team squad, boss Manuel Pellegrini is believed to be more than happy with those options..

ClaretandHugh understands that Borrusia Gladbach may be ready to take Reece back to Germany where he started to make an impression towards the end of his loan spell at the club as David Moyes arrived as manager.

He failed to impress on his return in FA Cup games before suffering an ankle injury and was not used in any Premier League games.

However, he was reported widely as having been keen to remain in Germany where Gladbach may now be ready to take another look after he made just seven appearances last season.

Club insiders believe that he has now joined a potential exit list which includes Sam Byram, Jordan Hugill, and Edi Fernandes.

Pedro Obiang is not for sale despite interest from Italy.

Sky Sports previously reported that West Ham have rejected bids from both Fiorentina and Atalanta.

This week reports from Italy claimed that Atalanta had made a new bid offering the Hammers a £890,000 loan fee for a season with an option to buy worth £8m but club insiders say the club have no intention of loaning or selling the player this summer.

A club insider told Claret and Hugh this morning: “Obiang is not on the managers sell list, we can’t prevent silly low offers from Italy, why would be loan him as it would leave us short?”

Obiang made his £4.5 million switch from Sampdoria to West Ham in the summer of 2015 in a deal worth £4.5m but it appears the Hammers are not ready to cash in and Pellegrini still has plans for him in the coming season.

Rice made 31 appearances last year, Oxford hasn't managed that many appearances in 4 years for 3 different clubs.

He is young Norf, but for me in the few games I've seen him there is nothing standing out. You watch Rice at the same age, and you can see it, you know what the fuss is about. Oxford? Looks to me to have the physical attributes, but not the football brain.

I could be wrong, and he could go on to be immense, but if I was putting money on it I'd be lumping on him being a nothing more than decent, which is why I'd snap arms off for £10mil

10m seems a tad ambitious. If MP wants to let him go get what we can BUT insert a serious sell-on clause just in case he ever really delivers.

He can always apply for a job as Ravel Morrisons personal chauffeur...

I don't see what the fuss is about. Like others have mentioned he had one good game when he was sixteen and since then has struggled to get playing time for us, Reading and BMG.

Football is riddled with promising kids that end up on the PL scrap heap for one reason or another. Not too long ago Freddie Sears was revered by many on here but is now struggling to get game time for Ipswich, who bought him for 100 K.

I'd be stunned if we got anything near 10 million for Oxford.

While I agree with most of that assessment he is still ridiculously young...especially for a centre half. Unfortunately for him and us he’s on a million quid a year which will probably be his downfall as at that dough your not going to be afforded time to develop people will expect a certain level of performance instead of potential

I think it is telling that multiple managers have tried with him and he's not progressed.

Re: What’s the future for Reece Oxford For Sale?
Ability or potential aside, the last few times I have seen him (including live) he has shown no desire to play.

I was hoping only making 4 appearances in the second half at Gladbach (at right back) would show him that he still has to a lot to prove to be a top level footballer.

Now the only game I have seen him since was the first friendly and you can be rusty and you can be told don't hurt yourself but there still wasn't much there.

His price seems to going down as time progresses as well. But all the prices over the years could be paper talk.

People see that game and a reputation. They can't possibly see any more because there just hasn't been any more.

If Slav, Moyes and Pellegrini don't fancy him, then I'm happy with that.

They see all the hype that he got in the years leading up to his debut, comparisons to Rio etc.

I actually think he's an awful centre half whenever I've seen him play there. Quite telling that he barely got a game at Reading on loan and that Monchengladbach only played him at right back or midfield in the few instances they used him.

His only good performances for us were in midfield, the obvious one against Arsenal and the Europa League qualifiers against two bob opposition.

Re: What’s the future for Reece Oxford For Sale?
'if he fulfils the potential he's shown'

The only potential he showed was at youth level. I don't buy the Arsenal game thing, he was ok but because he was 16 it seems unreal, but he was absolutely atrocious in his very next game.

I could obviously be wrong, but this seems a pretty standard case for me.. when he was playing at youth level he was physically light years ahead of the rest, he was 6'3 at 15 and had pace and composure, so he stood out like a sore thumb. Because big clubs were after him, we couldn't risk letting him go, so we gave him a ridiculous contract that no one of that age deserves.

However, now he is physically on a level, he has looked nothing approaching special in the games he has played for us. Thing with top level football is physical attributes are ten a penny, the real game is played in the head. And this lad is not the sharpish tool in the box, that's pretty clear. He's also safely on his way to being a millionaire, so how much fire in the belly to succeed at all costs?

Time will tell, but if we can get £10mil, that is unbelievable business for someone who is showing no real signs that he'll be anything near a world beater.

I'm not sure what what people see in him, but I'd love it it we did manage to get £10m for him.

For a player who's been dining out on 1 good game which happened 3 years ago, that's a lot of money.

But if he wants to fight for his place then there is defo quality there. I would like to see Pellegrini try and develop him. He could be top drawer and can slot in at CB, CDM or RB.

If we ''can'' get 10 Mill for Oxford would take the money and run lots of potential not always a future superstar.

Re: What’s the future for Reece Oxford For Sale?
At the end of the day I trust Pellegrini to do what he thinks is right with the squad and the players under his management, and if Oxford leaves it will be because Pellergrini doesn't want him at the club, for whatever reason. Oxford certainly doesn;t seem to have impressed at BMG like his predecessor, Christensen did.
