Rochelle Clark retires.
Exactly!

Sky sports deemed it important enough to give it a breaking news thread.

PC madness! It would be the equivalent of Joe Bloggs retiring from playing for the Dog & Duck Pub team.

"So why the fuck do these TV companies and sports networks keep pushing this nonsense on us"

Dont know about the UK, but here its down to the state owned networks (equivalent of the BBC) and there new PC driven initiatives on equality, not sure whats next Gay Rugby or Transgender hockey................

Re: Rochelle Clark retires.
The thing what pisses me off with this is the 'demand' issue.

Any sport in the world is big through it's 'demand'. So the question is who really actually watches women's football, rugby, hockey other than the players families? Very few people.

So why the fuck do these TV companies and sports networks keep pushing this nonsense on us?

There are some utterly superb men's sorts that don't even get a sniff on major networks yet they feel they need to push women's rugby and hockey.

They need to start seeing things for what they actually are rather than what they think is the right thing to do. Watching women's football is like watching under 13's Sunday football. So why the fuck would any person want to watch it apart from perving.

‘Most influential’ is a bit of a fuzzy nonsense term isn’t it?
So she is 16 places ahead of any active male All Black and 34 places ahead of the All Black captain.
Is that reflective of rugby interest and income generation in NZ?

PC gone mad innit

Although at least some of these female rugby players are honest enough to come out as gay unlike the nightclub handbag swingers in the men’s game.

PC madness indeed.

Its just as bad over here, they started bigging up all types of woman's sports and the TV channels by there own PC codes of equality have to broadcast it, remember one game, made social media news as they were bragging of this big crowd that turned up, but it was all down to giving out vast numbers of free tickets to schools.

Some schools didnt even tell the kids, all they did was say they had a free excursion to the Rugby, all the kids got excited but on the day they found out it was a Womans game and huge sigh of disappointment.

I see Portia Woodman has been named the 9th most influential person in rugby by Rugby World Magazine.

She's a woman.

I retired from rugby the minute I got to the sixth form and PE stopped being compulsory.

I'm amazed that people care so little about it, but care just enough to complain, like it affects them somehow.

Re: Rochelle Clark retires.
She holds the record number of England caps in her sport, no mean achievement in a physical sport such as rugby. I suspect she's also a rugby world cup winner so I would say she is a prominent sportswomen and her retirement is worthy of mention.

Trouble is that tv stations and channels used to only show stuff and talk about stuff that was of interest to the majority and would probably make them money. Now though they’re interested in the whole pc angle and keep reporting on stuff that one women and her dog are interested in.I do wonder what will happen in futre when sky in particular realise that people are just not interested and it starts costing them money.Think they might review they’re experiment then.

I see Liverpool FC Ladies have been renamed Liverpool FC Women. Something about equality, more serious blah. (Website not changed though.)

Shirt sponsor? It's still Avon (cosmetics) "the company for women". Which is itself both stereotyping women AND excluding men! Isn't it?

When that Man City women's player recently transferred to Lyon (I think) media reported a "world record fee". I looked into this. It seems £100k or thereabouts would be a world record. ANY fee is remarkable. So, not surprised the sum was not mentioned.

Women playing and enjoying football = great.

Just wish they'd stop PRETENDING it's the same "business".

Re: Rochelle Clark retires.
Just read her Wiki entry, she is a PT and coach outside of rugby with her wife. What a surprise.

No doubt she will get an MBE/OBE or something, if she has not got that already.

Any sports bulletin should in the limited amount of time they have cover things in order of importance.
Giving things undue prominence because it involves a woman is patronising and sexist.
Bloke winning the Tour de France is important to most sports fans
A women’s hockey match even if it is the World Cup comes a long way down the batting order.

Which sport does this Rochelle play?
I suspect 90%+ or sports fans would struggle to answer that.

Re: Rochelle Clark retires.
Few women actually watch sport, even fewer play it. This obsession with equality is just a phase, it'll soon pass. When the money-men realise that womens sport just isnt profitable they'll downgrade or even close the teams down completely.
