Awful way to die, think I'd take my own life once it took hold of me.

Former West Ham player John Cushley died of this disease a few years back at the age of 65.

Sad story, hope his remaining time is painless and as happy as it could be under the circumstance.

29, no age at all.

Re: Bolton defender Stephen Darby diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease
Why do the print and broadcast media refer to him as ‘former Liverpool player’ first and foremost? Is that the only reason he can be relevant or newsworthy? Isn’t it a story otherwise? He only played for them once. Can they not just say ‘former Bradford City captain?’

Anyway. Absolute shitter of a disease and it’s terrible for him and his family and friends. One of my mums best friends died of it. Awful.

Tragic, getting the diagnosis must be bad enough but waking every morning with a clear head and the the realisation of an impending death.in a relatively short period of time. I can't put into words how that must feel

I had a friend who died from this (four and half years from diagnosis) and it is, indeed, extremely shit.
He made the very most of the time he had left and outwardly kept a good front up - What else can you do?
Hope Stephen Derby does the same poor guy,

I know, getting diagnosed with this means that you get to spend a year of two gradually watching bits of you stop responding to your unconscious demands to work until you are lying in your bed, the only thing left working is your breathing

Then you watch while that stops and you suffocate.

Give me helmet cancer any day of the week.

If there was a god, then he wouldn't have this awful disease.

Terrible news. 29 is no age to succumb to something like this. If there is a God, then may he bless him.

Apparently, there are three main types of prognosis.

The first gives a life expectancy of 14 months from diagnosis.

The second gives a life expectancy of five years from diagnosis.

And the third gives an indefinite life expectancy, with progressive incapacitation.

Death is usually due to suffocation, because the disease prevents the muscles from functioning, including the lungs.
