Major signings who have been as good for us as they were expected to be.
The other side of the coin from the "got injured" thread. Some of our successful big name signings have had certain issues at the time which made them less attractive to the biggest clubs (De Canio, Payet, Arnautovic), so which players who have had no such issues when we signed them went on to live up to, or exceed, their reputation? There aren't many but I can think of Parkes, Pop Robson, perhaps McAvennie, and Parker.

Alan Taylor won us the cup in 75 scored 2 in each of the quarters, semi and final. Lyall signed him from Rochdale for 40k in 74, was probably a fair bit back then, but what a signing.

Graham Paddon (in a swap for MacDougall) and Martin Allen came to us with good reputations.

David Cross and Ray Stewart were two others.

Always seems easier to think of the major signings that have been a complete let down when answering this type of thread,

Ted McDougall, left after Bonzo had a fist fight in the team bath and Greenwood jumped in suited to pull them apart.

Give us a goal Raddy!

Dowie, just couldn't score for how many games, jeez its nor rocket science?

Phil Parkes, was a world record fee for a keeper when he joined and couldn't have been more value for money

Mark Ward was signed for peanuts and Bishop/Morley were a swap deal so don’t think they qualify.

I liked Christian Dailey . Always put in a shift despite his obvious lack of ability.
Which is more than can be said of a lot we’ve had .

i'm fairly shocked we spunked £21m on a defender from a foreign league who hasn't turned out to be dogshit.

Dean Ashton was a brilliant player him getting injured on England duty still pisses me off to this day.

I'd say Dean Ashton, wasn't he our 7m club record signing at the time? He delivered - well, up until his career was ended.
