Re: Essex CCC 2019
Cheers Norman, your Middle Saxons are struggling. Could be hard work getting out of Div2 next year again with only 2 going up. Think you'll need to hope that Notts underperform massively again and you're in with a shout.

No doubt the 50 over game next year against the mighty mighty ESSEX will not be held at Lord's due to that London Spirit Shane Warne claptrap so probably just the one trip there in 2020 for the whackball. Shame really, a full day trip to Lord's to watch the double 🏆🏆 winners would have been something to look forward to.

Re: Essex CCC 2019
Found the Ravi Bopara quote.

Ravi Bopara, however, said he could not answer whether he would be at Essex next season.

"It's been an amazing season, I'm proud of this bunch of lads," he said. "I love playing with these boys, they're my family.

"It's emotional and I can't say right now (about my future). My lips are sealed and I don't want to get into any trouble and I have to keep quiet for now."

Re: Essex CCC 2019
You're not going to get players giving up the pay day of T20 competitions to finish off a CC season.

I remember back in the day when Bopara was a test/fringe test player, he turned down an IPL contract to play in the CC to try and get selected for the test side.

https://bdnews24.com/cricket/2011/04/11/bopara-focuses-on-test-cricket

So players will miss whack ball money, for non monetary reasons.

Re: Essex CCC 2019
I did wonder when Somerset offered the draw if it was because if they'd played on to 1730 and (probably) lost as a result it may have cost the Wurzels players a bit of money in a draw bonus or suchlike if that is in some of their contracts.

You're not going to get players giving up the pay day of T20 competitions to finish off a CC season. They can earn in say a 6 week competition what their county pays them all season. I don't know the ins and outs at Essex being a Kent boy but I should think its the same for all counties top players, and congrats on defending your title .

Sven,

Yes, they could. But I imagine the bowling would've slowed quite dramatically...

Re: Essex CCC 2019
But they did finish at 5.20 didnt they?
So Essex could have played on til 5.30 and won the match if they wanted to?

Ravi (and Varun Chopra) had signed up to play in the Euro T20 slam, late August/September, which would have meant them being unavailable for the end of the CC season. I wonder if this has caused problems?

The tournament was cancelled this year , which is the only reason they didn't miss the end of the CC . Could be a cause of friction at Essex.

Chopra was also on the naughty step at the same timeas Bopara, he was even left out of the 2nd team for a while. Ended up signing a new contract to the end of next season though.

Cheers Mike. Understood now. Just struck me as odd in a game that lost so much time the only time the weather was decent they finsihed at 17:20. Not moaning as it went well for Essex but I would have been disappointed if it was the other way round. Cheers for clearing up though.

Because with the rain intervals, the minimum amount of overs required to bowled in the day had been reached by the 5:30pm scheduled close of play.

C&P from the ECB

HOURS OF PLAY:

Play begins at 11am and runs to 6pm for all four days with a minimum of 96 overs a day for the first three days, with a minimum of 80 overs on day four. A maximum of 30 minutes of lost time can be made up on each day.

Lunch: 1:00pm – 1:40pm
Tea: Days 1, 2 & 3 at 3:40pm or when 32 overs remain. Day 4 at 3:40pm.

For every 3 minutes 45 seconds of stoppages, one over is lost.

*Please note all timings move back 30 minutes in September

Re: Essex CCC 2019
With Ravi maybe a fall out with Ronnie Irani, maybe with Anthony McGrath.

and also getting Ravi and Tendo to drop going off to T20 competitions when we need them for the county championship.

Re: Essex CCC 2019
There was still time in the game but as Somerset couldn’t win I presume they offered the draw and Essex accepted.
As Essex didn’t need the win they accepted but if they wanted to I imagine they could have refused and played on to knock off the last 20 runs or so.
