Pablo Fornals - signed

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought-after Spain international attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A creative, technically-gifted playmaker with an eye for goal, Fornals joins the Hammers from Villarreal, for whom he has excelled in both La Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

Fornals, who becomes the second most-expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Felipe Anderson, has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year, after undergoing a successful medical at Spire London East Hospital.

Just 23, the Castellon-born player has already made more than 150 senior appearances and will join up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after representing his country at this summer’s UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

I’m not so sure we have paid £25m, I seem to remember experts in the media saying we paid £8m rising to £25m, depending on the player fulfilling certain targets.

If that's the case then our net spend is much lower than the rumoured £22m.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
He improved a tiny bit, for a few games in a row, during early December.

But he still drifts out of games far too easily. Too often, long chunks of the game just pass him by - it's the same problem with Haller - and you can genuinely forget that he's on the pitch.

He is still not physical enough, even for a little fella, and he needs to start realising that he's not always going to get given the ball to feet on the edge of the opposition penalty area. He has to get more involved.

Overall, a poor signing so far - especially for £24m. But not as poor as Haller, who has been a terrible waste of £45m so far.

He’s not a wide midfielder. Pellegrini loves a technical no 10 type player. He has 5 or 6 of them. They don’t need pace just a nice pair of carpet slippers and we will pass it into the net.

We should be renamed West Ham Strollers and change our kit to look like one of those. Chumleigh Warner sketches from the fast show

An average player, with the added bonus of being slow.

Great work, Pellers.

Sniper, should a winger expect s player to be in front of him?
What do you want from a winger?

Re: Pablo FORNALS - signed
Whenever he gets a pass he stops and attracts pressure. Either a pass is sent backwards or he loses possession. That's 9 out of 10 times if you were looking.

Instead he could run in a forward free space and look for a cross/pass.

He runs a lot, because he is young and have stamina to do so, but his football brain is very very small. And far to small for PL.

He might get handy in the championship if he learnes how to move with the ball and shield it from the opposition.

These 24m should have been spend more wisely, and rather let Holland groome into the starting XI.

Husillos and Pellegrini should resign for doing this deal together with Roberto and Wilshire.

Re: Pablo FORNALS - signed
Anyone saying that too many of his passes are sideways or backwards is missing the very blatant point that there’s never anyone ahead of him to pass to!

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
In the right formation this lad could be really good but he needs a minder to cover his back (like Bonzo/Sir Trev) but he doesn't see enough of the ball because it doesn't stop in the centre of the pitch due to lack of robust players. It's not fair to put all that responsibility on a 20 year old (Rice) ...he needs a foil in midfield to help keep the ball further up the pitch.

Agreed...worse players out there today. Rightly so, he gets a lot of stick, but fucking Lanzini is stealing a living at the moment but that seems ok..and dont start me off with that french cunt up front!!

Too lightweight for the Premier League.

Sell him back to La Liga.

End of thread.

Re: Pablo FORNALS - signed
I stick to my view. Very poor buy.
I'll give him credit for his workrate and enthusiasm, but is very poor on the ball. 90% of his passes is either backwards or to the opposition.
Luckily for him our other players have been even poorer, so he is shining in their shit.

I don't remember Devo struggling SDKFZ? He signed from non league Southal & virtually went straight into the first team as I recall, in a league cup match, & stayed there. If Fornals us half as good as Devo, we have a player on our hands!

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Watched him a few times in the summer's Under 21 tournament and imo he looked best when he played in a similar role to the one Lampard used to at Chelsea.

Encouraging that after a slow start he's got 3 assists in the last 4 games. Good going that.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
I think he needs to play deeper, where he'll get a little more time on the ball and can use his tenacity and range of passing to better effect.

Left midfield in a 4-3-3 is where I'd like to see him operate, with Declan inside of him, and Noble completing the 3 (unless of course we ever sign a true no. 8 worth the description to replace Nobes).

Up top, perm 3 from Lanzini, Anderson, Haller, Antonio and maybe Yarmalenko. Those players don't work hard enough, and need to be pushed higher up the field where they can do some more damage and impact us less with their lazy ways.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Players now days don’t have a chance to settle. They either hit the ground running or they are considered shit. For me he loses the ball far too many times and needs to score or at least shoot. He’s been in the position to lots of times but doesn’t. I think there’s a footballer there but not in the premiership.

That used to happen to Ian Bishop...regularly split the opposing defence with a sublime through ball but would get booed because nobody was able to read it...apart from Morley...on occasion.
