Pablo Fornals - signed

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought-after Spain international attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A creative, technically-gifted playmaker with an eye for goal, Fornals joins the Hammers from Villarreal, for whom he has excelled in both La Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

Fornals, who becomes the second most-expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Felipe Anderson, has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year, after undergoing a successful medical at Spire London East Hospital.

Just 23, the Castellon-born player has already made more than 150 senior appearances and will join up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after representing his country at this summer’s UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

Fornals Form Bingo. Great game.

I think the reason for his bad form is because his wife recently started buying Sainsbury's Essential pasta rather than the Taste the Difference line.

Good player horribly out of form like most of our players

Cresswell being out plus his bird having a baby is the reason for his drop in form.

He will regain it though.

Get Cresswell back and the lad will reproduce his best form.

Precisely.

Hardly a surprise he turned to shit when Cress got injured. Almost as if playing in a certain system meant something.

I think you’re right; at least the timing matches. He was one of the first names on the team sheet until his baby was born, and he’s been nowhere near the level he’d reached before that.

He’s average, probably better than I give him credit for but way overrated by a lot of people. Has a good game every 6-8 games and is an absolute passenger in the others. Also his passing for a modern day Spanish international is pony.

I have to admit I’ve never rated the lad, just shows what counts we’ve had in the past that everybody loves a player because he actually tries tbf he clearly loves playing for the club but he gives the ball away so much the amount of times he has simple ball to put somebody through and he just can’t make those passes. His finishing is diabolical to I reckon half the goals he’s scored have been off his shin or a scuffed shot.
I like him as a fella and get behind him for the effort and passion he shows but I just don’t think he’s very good

Feel a bit for him. I thought he had found his feet and then he was left out for some reason for a couple of games. Maybe that's hit his confidence.

Another nothing performance from the lad. Not just digging him out, as they've all been shit as an attacking unit for a while now (apart from Bowen in a few games) but none of the others have received praise like Fornals in the past.

Benrahma gets dogs abuse, but at leasr he tries to get involved. Fornals is like a passenger at the moment, and has been for far too long. Needs to pull his finger out, if this form continues then we should get shot in the summer.

His workrate and passion have rubbed off on others, Fornals is one of the reasons where we are now.

I thought he was our best attacking player v City until Lanzini came on. He also did his usual of getting stuck in and working for the team.

I'm not overly concerned with our current form. Wolves was a horrible game we deservedly lost, and Man City we had moments. Brighton is a winnable game, Chelsea we can get something out of. Come out of the next two with 4 or more points and we're doing ok.

What Manuel said in his 1st paragraph ( the bit about there not being much of player when he's off form was a bit harsh for me, though).

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Fornals work off the ball in pressing / closing down, getting a foot in etc. is why Moyes will always look to play him currently. In possession he has not been as effective for sure but he and Bowen work so hard off it for the team. Better at that aspect of the game than Benrahma, Lanzini, Vlasic, Yarmalenko etc. which is why they get picked I suspect.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
When you know a player is giving his best, like Fornals does, they get more of a pass when their form dips. The problem is he is never going to be a world beater, even at his best, albeit he can be very good, but when he is off his game there isn't that much of a player left.

Moyes is going to be building over the next several windows, so you have to wonder if players like Fornals and Benny will be starters in say a years time? I suspect not, unless they find consistency.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Fornals hasn’t been as bad as some are making out over recent games.

He’s not been as good as before, but then neither has the whole attacking unit.

There were a few occasions today where he received the ball and used it well. Certain others gave it away more or made more errors.

He needs to improve, but they all need to, to be fair. That includes Benrahma, Bowen and Antonio.

I wonder if it might be an idea to introduce Vlasic for more game time now, now that other regular starters are having a dip. It will help him get up to speed and also might give others a kick up the arse.
