Pablo Fornals - signed
West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought-after Spain international attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.

A creative, technically-gifted playmaker with an eye for goal, Fornals joins the Hammers from Villarreal, for whom he has excelled in both La Liga and the UEFA Europa League.

Fornals, who becomes the second most-expensive signing in the Club’s history behind Felipe Anderson, has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year, after undergoing a successful medical at Spire London East Hospital.

Just 23, the Castellon-born player has already made more than 150 senior appearances and will join up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after representing his country at this summer’s UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

Yep, I'd agree with that assessment of Fornals: he is prepared to try something different, pass-wise. I don't mind him doing that, providing it's in the oppo's half or final third. That's also why I never read too much into football DATA like pass completions, which makes very little provision for the difficulty of passes etc.

Easy to pass sideways like Ray 'The Crab' Wilkins for your entire career. But Pablo does at least try something different, higher up the pitch and at a higher tempo.

I still wish he'd tracked his man/runner back in the opening minute of the first leg, though. That one was on him!

I just think Pablo, Soucek, Antonio and others are knackered and running on fumes. They've played a huge amount of high-tempo football this season - and some of them barely got a rest last summer because they were at the Euros.

Same thing has happened this season as happened last time around: we've run out of energy and had injuries just as the final few weeks of the season have come upon us - so the wheels have fallen off.

Just hope we can go hell for leather in Germany.

If anything Fornals tries too hard and sometimes the things he tries just don't come off. I like him, obviously cares about the club and the fans. Glad we have him.

Part of the reason Fornals makes quite a few mistakes is because he tries things, he's ambitious - sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn't. Lanzini, on the other hand, does very little other than play safe - he actually produces precious little in terms of key passes and goal/assist contributions.

Shit midfielders (shit technically, at that) always get picked in Spain squads.

As for it being a given players work hard - it isn’t necessarily though, is it? The very reason he gets picked more than others is because of the extra protection he gives our left hand side as a direct result of his work ethic. Exactly what Benrahma, and Anderson before him lack.

Oh, he’s plenty good enough for us on a technical level, too.

I'm sure if you had a game against Fornals or Lanzini he would play you pub players off the park.

Miike, calm down. It's not rating a football player, I've not burnt down your local off license.

We can disagree about football, it's not that deep. Fornals won't be reading WHO like us sad cunts, so don't worry about him too much.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
because cunts like you are singling out one player, when there's others playing worse. he's only ever got praised when he's played well, you're one strange wanker

What has Lanzini being in poor form got to do with Fornals poor form?

On the flip side, Lanzini hasn't been given the ludicrous praise that Fornals has been afforded because he runs around like a headless chicken.

Yeah, I too am a bit bewildered that Lanzini gets a free pass as much as he does.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
it's like a form of attention seeking, especially when there's others playing worse like lanzini. he's been an easy target since he signed

It’s the constant over criticising, pub player for example….

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
why do so many people praise the fact he works hard. Seriously it should be an absolute given for every player to put a shift in, can’t be getting praised for that.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
Why are people so sensitive to warranted criticism of our players?

In the last 3 games, Fornals has looked like a pub player. He's been absolutely fucking awful, his passing has been down there with some of the worse ever seen in the shirt.

It's ok to acknowledge that.

is there a way to see the stats of the player who has assisted the assister as i reckon pablo would be right up there , people dont notice the little things. the ones who think pablo is shit are the same people who have probaly never played a game of football

It’s amazing how we can be in the Europa semi final and be on track for a top seventh finish in two consecutive seasons for the first time in our history when we have so many shit players.

Re: Pablo Fornals - signed
I used to question Fornals' impact on our team, but he's really an important cog.

A poster below mentioned about someone thinking he was our 2nd most important player. I'd almost agree and lob him in 3rd behind Rice and Antonio.

We all know that Pablo is a willing runner, but he's got a really nice pass on him, is quick minded in his play (was it against Everton that we mugged someone in the centre of the pitch and he immediately fed Antonio with a beaty of a pass whose shot was saved for Bowen to then score?), and is often in good attacking positions if perhaps his finishing let's him down.

I feel like I can totally see why he plays a lot.

Benny however is one of our most frustrating. Brilliant and shit in the same match. His crossing being firmly nailed as the latter.

I’d sell Benrahma to Brentford and get the 2 lads in from Hull.
