I first saw her at Palantine Campaign headquarters at 63rd and Broadway. She was wearing a white dress. She appeared like an angel. Out of this filthy mess, she is alone. They...cannot...touch...her.

Alfs
Also French Connection 2 arguably one of the few sequels that ranked alongside the original - the "cold turkey" scenes were great acting by Gene .

Re: Taxi Driver (the film)
Gene Hackman made some great films around that era. French Connection is a particular favourite.

The slow moody build in the film makes it even more intense. Films for adults.

Love that era of films. Really moody weirded out shit. Too many drugs for sure.

One of the great paranoia films another one to consider is The Parallax View and/or The Manchuria Candidate

The Conversation is so fucking slow. A great performance by Gene Hackman though.

Watch it back to back with Mean Streets

Taxi Driver was ground breaking also nice bit of Jackson Browne on the soundtrack - late for the sky in case you’re wondering!

The Conversation is another one worth checking if you’ve never seen it.

All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

And as sampled by The Clash.

Come in, Travis
"All the animals come out at night
Queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal (who got shot tonight?)
Some day a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets"

(Who got shot tonight?) the city knows

"Thank god for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk
Listen you screwheads, here is a man who would not take it anymore
A man who stood up against the scum, the filth
Now I see clearly"

Personally I know the alley
Where Jack feeds on the birds of night
Not even bubbies bicycling (two-by-two) can stop

Re: Taxi Driver (the film)
Great cast
Harvey Keitel!
1970’s was a great era for film

Cybill Shepherd very underrated for me.
Excellent in Last Picture Show ... though not as good as Cloris Leachman in that.

Re: Taxi Driver (the film)
Love it. Panic in needle park is another classic NY based film from the same era.
