Long drives.
It won’t come as a huge shock that once or twice I have to do a bit of driving.

Left Moscow early hours Monday and am heading to Werchter in Belgium .

What with a stupidly long border crossing and having to take a 24 hour driving break in Germany the trip is booked to take a week but should only be 4 1/2 days.
1800 miles.

Other long stints are
Stansted to Lisbon - 1400 miles
Norwich to Bucharest 1700 miles (leave 7th aug)
Stansted to Barca is another one I do fairly often.- 1000 miles.

Glam job this.

When I was in my early 20s I drove from Sidney to cairns and back again , about 3000 miles round trip.

What’s the longest you have driven?

In my twenties - so long ago :( from Sydney to Perth 4004 kms........but unlike today the Nullarbor was little more than a rutted track for a considerable distance (1976).

Off topic a fair bit, but there are some huge wattage (?) stations in California and the rest of the west.

As kid as night I could pick KFBK, half way of up Alberta (almost 1100 miles away)

I would listen to the Kings basketball games. Same with the Sonics, Jazz and Trailblazers stations.

Before we left for Canada last summer, we house-sat for month for a co-worker of my wife's family that were driving to Tunisia (he is from there and they visit his parents/the grandparents every year but that was the first year they drove.)

That would be an interesting trip, I would imagine.

Capitol... we absolutely loved on the long drives KROQ (LA) and the Kevin and Bean show... we had to pull over once as I could not drive through laughing so much... great way to start the morning.

Satellite radio helps the long drives a lot. Once you get out of the big city areas you otherwise end up with country music, Christian rock or Christian sermons, or rush Limbaugh.

Re: Long drives.
Sometimes, the diversions seem designed as a form of torture.

One night, I was coming down the A1 to catch a morning flight from Stansted. There was huge diversion which took me to just North of Leicester and back to the A1.

Then there was a huge diversion which took me to just South of Leicester and back to the A1.

No hint of the Southern diversion on the Northern diversion, which would have enabled me to join up the two diversions and save a load of fuel and time.

I think the planners were having a laugh.

I love to drive through the night but diversions can be a right cunt. Friday night is the best night to drive through, less roadworks

Few years ago when my mate got banged up in Portugal me and a couple of mates had to do a quick run to Fuengerola in a transit van (don't ask), just looked it up and that's 1,385 miles straight there!

Just done 9,000 in a month storm chasing in the U.S, I wasn't driving all of it though.

When i want to see my youngest, who she won't let travel on his own via train, i have to do a round trip from Wimbledon to the Lake district.

600 miles exactly there and back, takes about 10 hours with only a couple of piss breaks. I normally leave around 5am and can be there for 9.30 with one stop. The backward journey isn't so straightforward.

It then gets done again a week later.

However, when done in a S Class, its not that stressful.

Fuck being a long distance lorry driver...must be a right melon twister being restricted to speed AND hours.

Did SW London to Copenhagen and back in 3 days.

Meetings in Frankfurt, Kiel and Copenhagen. Did a hotel somewhere in France on the way back, hovercraft home in time to play cricket for Teddington at 11am on Saturday.
