'Mass brawl' breaks out on P&O cruise ship Britannia
Plates and furniture were reportedly used as weapons after a mass brawl broke out on a British cruise ship.

Six people were hurt as P&O's Britannia sailed to Southampton after a week-long trip to Norway's fjords, police said.

A man, 43, and a 41-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The man and the woman arrested, both from Chigwell, Essex, are in police custody.

You can take the folk out of Essex...........

If you go away either as a couple or a small family (up to 5), then any larger group will generally be louder.

Any group with either all male or female will just be on the lash and a nightmare for the former.

But we have all been on both sides i'm sure.

Re: 'Mass brawl' breaks out on P&O cruise ship Britannia
I have been on five cruises all different lines (although three lines were owned by Carnival) somewhat different experiences.
No fights but did have a "heated discussion" at dinner with a loud mouthed monkey from Bolton who thought Sir Trevor Brooking was a "dishonest Southern Spiv" with undue influence at the FA. I disabused him of his views apart from the fact Sir Trev was from the South. We didn't share a table again.

For those interested my Cruise Reviews

Cruise Maritime - Marco Polo from Tilbury to Artic Circle and above for Northern Lights. Old ship very friendly good entertainment bit crowded in public areas great value for money though. Survived a force 9-10 in the Norwegian Sea met some nice people and enjoyed the exprience even if we didn't see much off aurora borealis.

Cunard - Queen Victoria to the Baltic & Russia. Up market and classy superb food. If you don't like formality avoid but I loved it. Drinks are very expensive but not the only reasons there were no fights!

Princess Line - Royal Princess round Britain Cruise
Large Ship and on this cruise there was a lot of Americans which were greatly upset that much of the time the Casino was closed because we weren't in International waters but no real problems but I missed the formality of Cunard. If I have dressed for dinner I don't want to share a table with a backwoods from the mid-west in his levis and braces( ok slight over statement) Places visited and ease of arrange your excursions big plus. Food ok but not Cunard level.

Holland & Amreica - Nieuw Amsterdam Alaskan Cruise from Vancouver following Canadian Tour Didn't like the Ship but loved the cruise venue. Apart from bad organisation around dinning arrangements due to the fact half the ship was occupied by a group of American evanagelists who wanted to dine together at 8pm. Chaos but the bars were quiet all trip. Complete lack of formality onboard and food only average.

P&O - Ventura Southampton to Greek Islands the Turkish port being dropped due to political unrest. The cruise venues were okay but there were long sea days given you had to get there. Not as formal as Cunard but more so than the American ships. P&O however, are the cheapest for drinks which probably a counts for why both this year and last year there have been fights on P&O. P&O has according to many I spoke to on the cruise definitely drop its standards in recent times...
As if having people from Bolton on board wasn't bad enough😉

My youngest works for Royal Carribean and when she saw the article about the P&O boat and British kicking off she said it was "no suprise" as in her experience the Brits are there just to fill their fat faces, be it food or booze and that a lot of the 20 - 50yr old British passengers are just loutish. Her take in 5 years working for RC is that:

British - embarrasing
Americans - thick but generally pleasant
Canadians - Nice, not big spenders though
Germans - Bloody rude.
French - Mostly quiet
Aussies - "Fucking nightmare but generally good fun".

Wils, spot on. Best thing is try to do holidays which avoid other people as much as possible.

"Russians
Northerners
Americans
People from Essex
Scots

Then your holiday is ruined."

It could be worse, you could be on an easy jet plane to Barcelona full of childless couples all carrying SLR camera around their neck cos they think they are more arty than the average joe. Then spend the next few days awkwardly bumping into them in every cafe around town because you are using the same guide book as everyone else.

Tourism is shit at all levels. There is no hierarchy from which you can look down on people, different things repulse you amongst different crowds.

Most mass cruise lines are now chasing scum class punters ... probably best avoided unless the idea of being locked down on a floating Butlins is your thing. The prices charged by the lines running smaller boats with a high crew to passenger ratio tends to shake out the rubbish.

Was on the Britannia last year and to be honest this is not a surprise.

Carnival are the Spring break of the seas red neck line of the US, P&O are owned by Carnival and have been slowly turning down the quality and pricing.

I'm enjoying a nice post-Sunday afternoon bottle of cheap Chianti, Josephine, and I see no reason why I should refrain from doing so just because you old man was clearly an aggressive pikey alkie.

Now then, let's have Daves T and L on the thread right now so we can all ascertain whether their characters are convincingly different.

Chop chop, Josephine.
