Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
Personally I like Arthur. Sure he can be erratic defending but once he gets in full swing he's an exciting player to watch.

Clearly he is IN our plans.

Just checked and he's only 25, thought he was a bit older than that!

Good on the underlap and overlap.

Pat Nevin once highlighted L baines underlap runs, very insightful.

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
Masuaku has steadily improved.

Still has the odd lapse in concentration, but overall he's doing well.

In terms of us acheiving a Europa League place and possibly winning a cup, i think he's good enough to give us a chance of doing that.

It would be great if in 3 years time, he improves (along with the rest of the squad) even more and can help us maybe, yes maybe, be in with a chance of going for a Champions League spot.

Personally, i don't think he will acheive that. But, there is no reason why he can't be an able understudy to someone who is good enough to help us challenge for Champions League qualification.

Of course, how we invest for the next 3 years, will determine all that

Iam always fairly optimistic, but also know this is West Ham, so It can all turn to shit at any moment.

;-)

I quite like Arthur, but why would anyone be gutted about those stats.

Those things are ridiculous

Much prefer Arthur to Cresswell.

High praise in deed Alan.
Happy to say I saw it as did many. Not sure where that leaves the divs that cannot see it? Watching something else I guess...

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
WhoScored, the largest detailed football statistics website, has named Masuaku in the Premier League team of the month for August.

But that’s nothing.

West Ham man gets European honour

The defender, with a 7.91 rating, was then named in WhoScored’s European team of the month for August. Masuaku was one of four Premier League players included in the XI. A phenomenal achievement.

Masuaku has been excellent. Both defensively and as an attacking threat, the Congo left-back was one of the best players on the pitch in wins over Watford and Norwich.

His rapid pace on the overlap with star playmaker Felipe Anderson is burgeoning into a genuine threat.

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
One of the few players who can be absolutely shocking and then absolutely amazing all in the same game.

Has skills up there with Anderson and Lanzini, just needs to be a bit more consistent and steady, which he seems to have done so far this season. Hope his form continues in this trend.

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
He is one of the few players in our side that has the skill and pace to go round opponents and the ability to make things happen

Antonio, Anderson, Yarmalenko, Haller, Lanzini, Fornals, Wilshere.. Our team is full of those players,.

I don't think he is a winger. For me he is a perfect left-midfielder. Different to a traditional winger.

But whatever, he looks very decent at the moment and hope it continues. He is one of the few players in our side that has the skill and pace to go round opponents and the ability to make things happen.

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
If memory serves me, last season we played better against the top sides who were willing to have a go in attack and we struggled against weaker sides that tried to close up shop.

With that in mind, I suspect that we’re generally better off with attacking fullbacks who can contribute to attack, rather than a solid defender who’s limited in attack

Fullback isn’t our strongest position, but Arfur has looked good recently. Hopefully that will continue because opposing managers will be warning their sides about the danger from our left side.

Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
Can be great attacking. As saw when playing as a wing back, was our best player for a spell then. Quick feet. Crossing a bit wayward. Lapses in concentration defending are alarmingly regular tho.
Better than cresswell in every way, but we need a new left back still.

You never have a positive thing to say about our players, Muppet.

What's the point of paying you any attention at all?

Hermit Road 9:07 Thu Sep 5
Re: Masuaku signs new contract (2024)
I think Arfur had a bad year last year and didnt want him to get a new contract. He's a winger, not a defender and as a winger, he's just not that good. One good game against a Norwich team that were scared stiff doesn't change that opinion.

Cresswell is the past...old and slow...
Masuaku can be the future...quick and clever...

It's worrying that so many of the usual suspects can't see Masuaku's qualities.

Good move this.

And what people don't realise we are now known as a attacking side with that we will leak goas but score many also
