If in Vigo take a look at this which is on the harbour near the Royal Yacht club;

Jules Verne lived in Vigo whilst writing 20,000 Leagues under the sea.

Lugo and Pontevedra both well worth a visit, w4.

Had a cracking meal in a place called La Taberna de Rita in La Coruna. Some of the best ribs I've ever had.

If you're pushed for time, start from Povoa de Varzim at the northern extremity of the Porto metro lines. It'll save you a boring day walking out of Porto.

Povoa - Esposende - Viana de Castelo - Caminha - Oia - Baiona - Vigo. Do-able in a week.

We stopped for a couple of nights on Las Islas Cies, fucking stunning.

The Parador in Baiona is supposed to be the tits if you fancy splurging out the dosh.

Did the coastal in 2013. Great. Quite tough because it was my first one. The second one was much easier even though it was a tougher route because you know what to expect more.

Stayed in some great places: Caminha, Oia, Pontevedra and Caldas des Reis.

One thing I learned Estrella Galicia is better than Superbock.

Was thinking coastal, just for the breeze, like.

To be honest my planning thus far has extended to getting that guide that everyone buys.

Re: Anyone been to either....Vigo or La Coruna
Walked through Vigo on a Camino, big place going back in September for a proper mooch.

Did a couple of nights in Coruna after finishing another Camino, liked it a lot. Would go back.

Why ask this question on this website?? Of all the internet you thought a West Ham fan site would be the place to ask.

Re: Anyone been to either....Vigo or La Coruna
My old man is from A Coruna and I've been plenty of times over the years...

It's a lively place at night especially the Montealto area where all the great bars are. You will also find great nightspots along the ciudad vieja (old city) and around Riazor where the beach and football stadium (Deportivo) is located.

There are some nice historic buildings in the centre of the city around the old port too but like a lot of Spanish cities the edges of it are an unremarkable example of urban sprawl with grim buildings which you won't look twice at.

Vigo has better beaches and better nightlife but the city is very grim architecture-wise.

Santiago is a cathedral city and a world heritage site so that tells you all you need to know

Vigo, charming place in a large bay with interesting small coastal villages around it. Also a good base, as has been pointed out for visiting, Santiago de Compostela being a must.

Nearest we've got to La Coruna is the airport but I've heard good reports of it.

Re: Anyone been to either....Vigo or La Coruna
A Coruna is a pleasant, breezy seaport with some nice historical buildings. I wouldn't say stay there for more than a couple of days because it's not that exciting. Inland Galicia is for me more interesting.
