Sinclair story about Osijek 1999
anyone hear this on the radio this week- said when they went out to play this game, in some "time off" igor stimac and took them out to a abandoned area of the city, and bearing in mind this was post balkan war, had a bunch of pals turn up and let them fire a load of AK47's, revolvers and throw grenades around......half way through this, John Moncur gets bored and decides " for a laugh" to strip off, and come running out of the trees naked............the croatian lot go fucking crazy shouting and screaming as he's just run into a live mine field.......he tiptoes back and no-one said anything.

footballers, hey...!!?

John Moncur ... West Ham’s version of Princess Diana

It would be the West Ham way to have a player blown up by a landmine

Re: Sinclair story about Osijek 1999
I was in Croatia around that time and was trying to drive to a scenic spot using a useless map. The road gradually deteriated until it was just a farm track which then entered a very large field on the side of a hill.

The field was bare but there were tyre tracks going across it to the top of a hill. I followed the tyre tracks for about 100 yards when I noticed 3 farmers on their knees planting in the field.

They stood up as I approached and starting waving. As I got closer I realised they were not farmers but bomb disposal clearing a mine field which I was now sitting in the middle of.

Should I go forward along the tracks or try reversing 200 yards out of the field? Three-point turns were out of the question.

I went forwards, carefully and nervously until over the top of the hill to find a village completely destroyed in the war. The graveyard was all that was left. Many of the graves were new and pictures of the villagers who had been killed were on them.

20 years ago, well where has the time gone.

Were bullet holes in buildings everywhere.
