That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
That Wilshere for Yarmalenko substitution was a terrible decision, anyway you look at it.

Yarmalenko had been on a superb scoring run up until this match, we needed our better players on and in their right positions. So what does Pelligrini do, takes him off, brings on a busted flush in Wilshere, moves Fornals out to the wing, ie away from HIS best position, and it all goes to shit.

Diangana would've slotted nicely in, if he was so intent on taking Yarmalenko off. But no, even with our paper thin squad, he was allowed to go out on loan.

Three perplexing decisions from Pelligrini.

Wilshere...Will he ever be fully match fit...start and do at least 70 mins...???
Has his smoking killed his lung capacity...therefore limiting his stamina...???

Diangana needs this opportunity to build his craft and in PL this can be near impossible to achieve as you need a sniff of momentum to keep you in as a regular and bit part isn't great.

I'd like to think this will bring back a Diangana of the type of player Chelsea now have in that Mount & Abraham, one of confidence and a better choice of decision making at key points in a game.

He was stale and quickly sinking into obscurity after a promising start last season, it may yet still turn out to be the case at West Brom.

I get the logic of subbing Yarmolenko

We shouldn't be flogging him to death after a year out with something as nasty as a ruptured achilles.

He has looked good so far imho

Even when Yarno is playing bad, he still gets an assist or goal

Read this opinion a lot on here since yesterday.

I wasn't overjoyed when that sub was made but to be fair to Wilshere he showed one piece of class to set up Haller for a half chance.

I am a big Snodders fan but he's not exactly a match winner. Problem is our bench lacks real depth.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Why bring Fornals on and put him in the middle, but then no more than 10 mins later, bring on another central midfielder, necessitating another change around of formation?

At the time, I said I'd prefer Diangana to stay with us.

I was clearly wrong - this WBA spell looks like being the making of him.

Just hope he isn't tempted by the bright lights of West Brom...

Having Noble and Wilshere on the pitch together is a no-go.
Agree if he needed to replace Yarmolenko then Snodgrass was the obvious choice.
Lanzini had a nightmare and Fornals as a direct replacement in the same position was again obvious. With instructions to get closer to Haller which Lanzini failed to do.

OP - 100% correct. Worst sub he could've made. Even had Snodgrass as a direct replacement if Yarmolenko sub was necessary.

unless antonio breaks down again and yarmolenko or anderson gets season ending injuries by january, it would be best he stays at west brom the whole season.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Diangana needed to go out on loan to get enough game time to do what he’s now doing for West Brom. He’s miles better off where he is right now. Similar to how it benefitted Mason Mount.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Leave Diangana where he is...

He needs a solid season of football building strength, confidence and skill playing at a decent club which is flying under a manager who likes attacking football.

We know Wilshere should never have been signed...at least all of us who feared it was a stupid punt did anyway

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Diangana burst on the scene and was very good at first. Went out for a while which is understandable for a young player and when he came back late in the season he , to be frank, was very poor.
Sending him to West Brom was exactly the right thing as he looked like he needed a run of games which he was unlikely to get with us.
We can bring him back in January but he is unlikely to start ahead of Yarmolenko or Anderson and Antonio will hopefully be back by then.
At the moment I’d leave him there but definitely looking for him to be in the mix next season.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
I must admit it was a strange decision to loan him out when you had Yarmolenko coming back from a years injury and could have broken down and Antonio as cover who pulls his hamstring at least once a season.

Snodgrass should have come on if anyone came on yesterday so we kept our shape, Yarmo was the best player on the pitch and we are just 1 up and we have an international break next for him to recover, strange to take him off.. Noble was shot by then, Wilshere is piss weak defending a lead and Fornals was out of position and we wonder why they got back in the game. 100% down to MP terrible substitutions.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Much as I don't rate Snodgrass he was the only obvious replacement for Yarmo as his natural position is on the right.

The subs killed us.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Wilshere ... obviously he has been an expensive mistake. To me he is Noble’s back up. Until we buy the top class player we need to partner Rice. Which if we had done in the summer we COULD be challenging for top 6.

Exactly Sven.

It was an absolutely hideous decision to offer Wilshere a three year deal on 100k a week, pure madness.

It was blatantly obvious in the summer we were crying out for a box to box midfielder, it wasn't addressed so here we are.

Quite why Pellegrini thought Wilshere could preform in the Premiership week in week out is a source of constant amazement.

Just watch the highlights on Quest (who knew?) Diangana looking good linking up well with the Brazilian they have.

Definitely needs to be there.

Happy for Bilic as they go top.

Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Yarmalenko was on a yellow. That must have had some input into the decision to take him off?

Takashi Miike 9:57 Sun Oct 6
Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
he was 4th choice, possibly 5th if you include Snodgrass, in the order of wide players, so I understand why MP loaned him out. Holland should be on the bench instead of ♿ or the donkey, Sanchez. you need to worry about who'll replace Rice & Haller, if and when they get injured

Sajmo1 9:50 Sun Oct 6
Re: That Wilshere sub/Loaning out Diangana
Diangana plays regularly for wba and has scored 4 and assisted 3 in 9 games. If he stayed he would get 15-20 min a game and that's only because antonio got injured. It's really not hard to understand..
