Global warming and Climate change
Been in Sydney for 26 year but never experienced anything like the past month before, fires, smoke and the heat some days is fucking unbearable, just a hot dry summer or are Greta Thunberg and all the Activist types right and we are all fucked in the near future?

What’s the verdict from WHO?

Well, I'm going ski-ing in France in a couple of weeks time and there's fucking loads of snow, climate change my arse!

The fact is the world and it's evolving climate has been around for millions of years, yet we are trying to predict climate change based on a few years, any half decent statistician would argue that is bollocks!

Environmentalists are even hoodwinked by an autistic teenager whose parents should really be investigated by Swedish social services.

So why has the earth warmed at a faster rate in the last twenty years as we have cleaned the air?

Exactly.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
All I would say.
Only yesterday it came to light with more data that scientists now believe worlds were created not by smashing into each other, but by gradual build up of their mass.
All books on this will have to be re-written.
Scientists/so called experts reckon they have this nailed on about man making the climate hotter through emissions etc.
So why has the earth warmed at a faster rate in the last twenty years as we have cleaned the air?
Yes we are altering the climate, but not the way the Greta Thunberg's think we are, just bringing it into line to where we should really be.
Tragedy is the clean air mob will not stop the warming and could in fact be bringing us towards the precipice much faster than scientists predict.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
By far the easiest route to revenue and profits it to remain in the business you are already dominant in and continue to work on margin and profits, not to have to make massive high-risk plays that are in direct opposition to what you already do.

Green Energy is the new way forwards for the world to be powered, why would the likes of BP just sit there and not go with the times? Like everything things evolve, take away the GW issue at the moment there is an issue with air pollution particularly in big cities, BP could be one of the largest players in the Green energy sector just as it is in fossil fuels.

Again, it's not hard to work out.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Basically every pound you have to invest in renewable energy is going to come from their existing fossil fuel business and the results are also going to come out of their profits through lower demand for fossil fuels over the long term because renewable energy has no fuel costs.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
It is difficult to work out bolty because it bears no correlation to how businesses actually operate.

By far the easiest route to revenue and profits it to remain in the business you are already dominant in and continue to work on margin and profits, not to have to make massive high-risk plays that are in direct opposition to what you already do.

That's why the disruptors of traditional industries are rarely existing major players.

Take Tesla and electric vehicles. Tesla can be bold because it can only gain new business and has little to lose while traditional vehicle manufacturers had little interest in fully electric vehicles until they risked being left behind.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Because it can be like it is within the fossil fuel industry a leader in providing the energy, for us on the ground floor to transfer across to "Green" energy will cost a fucking fortune which will generate them further revenue, they can transition from fossil to "green" far easier than your average joe.

Again, it's not difficult to work out.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
So BP has to set aside the huge competitive advantage of scale and expertise is has in resources extraction because it believes climate change is a myth?

Capitol Man 5:53 Fri Feb 14
Re: Global warming and Climate change
Lets take BP - a company with hundreds of billions invested in infrastructure and deals that relate to the extraction of fossil fuel resources - why would it take on the hugely expensive task of realigning it's entire business model rather than just milking the existing e&p business until the climate conspiracy is proven to be all made up stuff by lefties.

Block 5:52 Fri Feb 14
Re: Global warming and Climate change
I said the transition, because we as a whole planet have to pay to change from gas to electric for example, can you not work things out for yourself?

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Capitol

One of the problems is that they reported "97%...believe humans are a MAJOR cause...global warming" when the question was worded with the options; "major cause" and "a cause", the report then decided to lump both of these together in "major cause"

NASA on climate "science" is a blob chasing money, have a look at how much research fudning cash is granted to pro MMGW studies that support this so called consensus and how much is spent on real research that searches for other causes.

For instance, they very rarely if ever separate the different causes of CO2.

Another problem is that human CO2 output pretty much flatlined or decreased last year but temperatures still increased. That can't be right. Unless the author of the report was Lewis Carroll.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Give us an example then block. How does and oil major or a power-generating utility make money by following "the global warming agenda"?

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Mong, I'm not pretending to be a scientist at all, but it's quite clear the reasons behind these big businesses pushing the global warming agenda, Green energy is the next big money making industry.

Look at Flamini who played for Arsenal, invested in Green energy yonks ago and is now even more minted than ever.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Did you know the unit price of renewable energy is falling all the time as demand increases, Boltyson?

This this is their big advantage over fossil fuels, which are a finite resource controlled by exactly the people who feed you the bullshit you use to find a place in your cranky social backwater.

Have you thought about this Boltyson?

Re: Global warming and Climate change
The consensus that humans are causing recent global warming is shared by 90%–100% of publishing climate scientists according to six independent studies by co-authors of this paper. Those results are consistent with the 97% consensus reported by Cook et al (Environ. Res. Lett. 8 024024) based on 11 944 abstracts of research papers, of which 4014 took a position on the cause of recent global warming. A survey of authors of those papers (N = 2412 papers) also supported a 97% consensus. Tol (2016 Environ. Res. Lett. 11 048001) comes to a different conclusion using results from surveys of non-experts such as economic geologists and a self-selected group of those who reject the consensus. We demonstrate that this outcome is not unexpected because the level of consensus correlates with expertise in climate science.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Bit weird though is it - basically most of the most profitable companies of all time were/are in the fossil fuel business, and yet they appear to lost the argument to a bunch of low-paid rather dull academics.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Which claim of 97%, this one?

John Cook — author of the 2011 book Climate Change Denial: Heads in the Sand and creator of the blog Skeptical Science (subtitle: “Getting skeptical about global warming skepticism.”). In an analysis of 12,000 abstracts, he found “a 97% consensus among papers taking a position on the cause of global warming in the peer-reviewed literature that humans are responsible.” “Among papers taking a position” is a significant qualifier: Only 34 percent of the papers Cook examined expressed any opinion about anthropogenic climate change at all. Since 33 percent appeared to endorse anthropogenic climate change, he divided 33 by 34 and — voilà — 97 percent! When David Legates, a University of Delaware professor who formerly headed the university’s Center for Climatic Research, recreated Cook’s study, he found that “only 41 papers — 0.3 percent of all 11,944 abstracts or 1.0 percent of the 4,014 expressing an opinion, and not 97.1 percent,” endorsed what Cook claimed. Several scientists whose papers were included in Cook’s initial sample also protested that they had been misinterpreted. “Significant questions about anthropogenic influences on climate remain,” Legates concluded.

Re: Global warming and Climate change
Er, Climate change happens every fucking day you spastic, that's climate for you, however I have suggested that GLOBAL WARMING is a complete and utter myth fabricated by big businesses for us to go "green" as the transition from fossil fuels etc to "green" energy will cost the consumer a fucking mint.

IF you cannot understand this, you are a fucking idiot.

There's plenty of research out there to suggest it's all fabricated, but you choose to ignore it.

As I said - we can all stop making climate an issue. Bolty has checked on this internet for us and it's a leftie conspiracy.
