Can't quite afford the Carribbean, and want somewhere a little less shit than the Canary Islands. Is there a little known middle ground??

Second thumbs up for Langkawi. Went there for my honeymoon back in '98. Andaman/Satai hotels. Beautiful island, friendly locals, great food and drink.

Salalah, Oman.

Not to hot this time of year. Pick your hotel carefully - many are very, very dry, but you can bring in 4l of duty free spirit per person now.

I remember having a bowl of beef soup noodles in the food court in Tesco in On Nut and thinking it was the best thing I'd ever eaten. This is just a standard thing that people eat all the time. Christmas day about 10 years ago.

If I have McDonalds, it's usually at 4am and I'm craving their fried chicken and some aircon..

Fair enough CBE, I just love Thai food, I can't get enough of it. I don't eat Phad Thai I do have the occasional green curry..

I do love a pad krapow (there's an old man who makes a great one on Sukhumvit 23) but I just eat anything I see, so many hawkers.

Had a great and spicy drunken noodles near the Grand Palace for 60baht which was nearly as good as Jay Fai's 1000 baht offering.

Best meal I had last time were Jay Fai.. Which was excellent and relatively expensive but is Michelin star Street food.

P'aor for Tom yum is fucking lovely and cheap.

I loathe McDonald's BTW.

I agree tbh. People who go to Thailand and subsist purely on phad thai and green curry and think they're some worldly new age wholesome adventurous type are just as big a cunts as folk who go and only want lasagne and burgers. Especially since a lot of Thai food (that you can't get right here in the UK) would make them lurch.

Re: Winter sun Jan/feb hol suggestions
I usually stay in Thailand for an extended period and have a few regular places to eat at, one of which happens to be a McDonalds (it's better there)... There's no way I could eat Thai every day. Especially not the authentic stuff the Mrs eats - snails, fermented fish/pork etc.

CBE I only ever eat local food in Asia, its better, fresher and most importantly they know how to cook it.

Especially in Thailand such a variety of street food I would never get sick of it.

Why wouldn't you eat European food in Asia or anywhere else? You're a free person on holiday. You eat what you want. Eat only local food and you'll be sick of it in no time.
