Painfully true.

You could add the following somewhere in the middle:

-Sign 'one for the future' or an unknown from another continent who never goes on to make a first team appearance.

-Buy a couple of underwhelming squad players on high wages who rarely play and you subsequently cannot shift, and they hang about the club for years not contributing but taking up wages and a squad place until their contract runs out. They then leave on a free.

-Sign someone who will be permanently injured. Especially if you've just managed to shift another such player.
