This coronavirus in China
|
anyone else worried? 9 dead so far.
CNY soon so the virus will spread very quickly if they cannot control it. It'll be in Europe by the end of CNY if not earlier.
is this the end of humanity?

Ron is well acquainted with cognitive dissonance but not in the way that he thinks.

They are both respiratory ailments, and the means of contracting them is the same. So, the means of avoiding both would be the same, would it not?
I have two words for you.
COGNITIVE
DISSONANCE

I know, Ridi, mad isn't it? It's almost as if they're two completely different viruses or something.

ONS figures.
Figure 4: The number of deaths in the year-to-date was lower than the five-year average"
Can't be arsed to read down the thread but is there a reason why you posted the year to date as at WE 20/03/20 for comparison to the 5 year average?

Then they need to stop all passenger traffic, period.
My understanding is that all they have done is closed the "travel corridors" and are asking (ASKING) people to self-isolate.
Oh, and fill in a form - as if THAT will stop somebody both staying indoors and providing false information.
Bit late checking up after a few days to discover somebody with a new variant has been coughing their way around the country - that is even if they have the staff (and really intend) to keep an eye on every single incoming person.
If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
I don't see any "Doing well" here, so can only assume the authorities don't think it's worth doing (at all).

I've spent the last 15 months working with the Police (not the Met). Front line cops are generally younger and fitter than the general population and than Police officers who don't work on the front line.
Cops have been issued with more and more PPE to the point that any interaction with the public in indoor spaces who are suspected of Covid require heavy duty masks that look like ski masks covering eyes and mouth, plastic pinnies like nurses and gloves. In normal interactions they're expected to wear masks and stay 2 metres away from people. Despite this, there are frequent outbreaks with dozens isolating at any one time and many getting very sick. I have no idea if any have died but the lack of death doesn't indicate the virus doesn't exist.
Shouldn't you stick to making unfounded predictions that turn out not to come to pass to then replace them with other predictions that also won't come true.
What's this week's prediction? Covid will lead to government legislation forcing us all to fellate Bill Gates and plug our brains into 5G?

Once it enters a country, it's there and will likely infect others. I think they just want to keep it out.

Is there any reason why travellers into the UK cannot be required to quarantine at their own cost in an appropriate hotel with necessary medical and security supervision?
The hospitality sector wins on account that they have to provide the accommodation and services, the security services win because they can find work for those unemployed in other sectors, the NHS wins on two counts: firstly this can greatly reduce the chances of a new variant entering the UK population and secondly, private/agency nurses who have the skills but do not wish to work in a hospital can provide the medical supervision.
Each hotel can be annexed to a controlling hospital that manages the process and is prepared to receive any infected traveller, if so detected..

"Can you guess which poster found it "funny as fuck" that the vaccine was only 95% effective, yet the survival rate of the disease was 99%, because they didn't have the basic scientific understanding to distinguish between the two things."
I think you can drop the word "scientific" from that, without making it less true...

Any news on those multiple scientific sources used to justify your dead trolling there Brandy?
On matters of competence. A quick quiz for everyone.
Can you guess which poster found it "funny as fuck" that the vaccine was only 95% effective, yet the survival rate of the disease was 99%, because they didn't have the basic scientific understanding to distinguish between the two things.
Clue - the same poster who suggested they have contacts high up in universities involved in research around COVID, and have the 'inside scoop' on the REAL version of events.
I don't know what side of science you are on Brandy, but I would suggest you stick to the foundation paper.

I’m on the “side” of the scientific method. Strictly speaking good scientists don’t “believe” anything. They set to disprove bad stories. Overtime more and more bad stories are disproved but it still leaves so many toconti us to disprove. This involves really hard work, time, patience and a lot of blind alleys.
GO and I probably share suspicion of elites and powerful people.I find that perfectly natural and normal as history is full of the great and not so great deeds by those that wield too much owner and influence.
What we share the most is the almost certainty that you will make some half arsed quip withno real substance after we have posted something until you dig a hole for yourself, ask for help from other equally incompetent posters and fuck off for a while.

I didn’t say it did contradict it Goldie and I didn’t say you were trying to prove him wrong Branded.
What Branded’s action in checking out your post did prove though Goldie is that he doesn’t consider you a trustworthy source of simply repeated information so checked it out himself despite you both being on the “same side”.
You’ll have to work out between yourselves why that’s the case.

I didn’t say GO was wrong. The essential message is police on the frontline are generally not the kind of people who are in any way at risk from this virus, but we know that as they are not old and frail or generally in bad health.

johnson In what way did branded's post contradict a word I said?
The fact notoriously dishonest 'fact' checkers made the claim there were many officers who had, and the FOI request made to the Met Police states otherwise.
One of those two organisations is lying, like you always appear to do.

The only remotely personal thing (other than mentioning the BIL) I have stated there is referring to you as a troll.
That is open to debate I suppose. I would argue that use of the term "dry tinder" as a one liner to describe the dead, was essentially that - trolling.
Remember you also said that this term was 'normal' for you, and 'multiple' scientific papers used it.
Can you share those multiple papers?
No, because they don't exist.
If my mention of your BIL is deemed personal then I apologise. I see no good reason why you couldn't share his modelling though?
