anyone else worried? 9 dead so far.
CNY soon so the virus will spread very quickly if they cannot control it. It'll be in Europe by the end of CNY if not earlier.

The numbers of deaths by occupation made the police and teachers claims to be prioritised look a bit precious. Taxi drivers were far higher iirc

The chap behind me (late 60s) in the vax queue had Covid at the beginning. He told me he felt rough for a few days but with all of the coverage of people on death's door on the news he was terrified of going to sleep as he thought when he wakes up he could be on a ventilator.
The paranoia was worse than the virus itself.

Not sure why that is "sad".
They may have seen friends and relatives die of this. It got my father over the Christmas holidays.
Given the horrible way this takes people, suffocating them away from their family and friends then I personally don't blame them for avoiding other people and focusing on keeping themselves safe.
It's certainly not sad.

I have a chuckle every morning taking the dog out at 7.30am.
In the park i go to i see a retired couple jogging round it, they used to (pre covid) always say "Good morning" and sometimes the old boy would stop and pet the hound.
They've become more and more distant over the past year to the point they now turn around if within 50 feet of me, but are fucked if someone else is coming the other way. There is then this bit where they weigh up the options, depart from the path and head across the grass to pick up another path..at the next junction they start looking about again to ensure they never get within 50 feet of anyone.
fucking sad, but i do laugh.

As a way to combat the vaccines, I reckon the virus will increase its infection trait in a trade off against its danger to us, reducing itself to no more than a standard cold over time.

Key now is patience (not a common virtue these days) - be guided by how things pan out after each step.
I see some releases being pushed back, some being brought forward, none of which will satisfy those who demand absolute and immovable dates in the process.

With the Vaccine the health services should not now come under extreme pressure.
We will probably still see hundreds/thousands of cases a day but it should not be causing serious illness for 99% of people.
The hysteria at the start created by uncertainty and the media is slowly going away. A vast majority of people just want to go back to normal now. The vaccine will hopefully bring around normality and the media will eventually find something else to talk about.

Many (and I don't claim to be among them) were saying, at the start of the outbreak, that this would be the end game.
Everything that governments have done in the interim was just to protect their respective health services (as the failure of those would have been totally intolerable).

COVID variants cannot be controlled. To worry about variants means that you will never leave the house again.
The flu constantly changes and the vaccine has to be tweaked every year. It is why flu still does the rounds now.
COVID will be no different.

Thailand is considering waiving their mandatory 2 weeks quarantine for international travellers who have been vaccinated/had a recent negative test. That will unleash a huge tsunami of European people (not just feeeeeelthy purrrverts) looking to get away.
Flights will be dirt cheap and many who had considered European destinations will be tempted, despite the 14 hour flight time.
Europe needs to get it's tourist industry back in order or it will lose out big time.
