This coronavirus in China

anyone else worried? 9 dead so far.

CNY soon so the virus will spread very quickly if they cannot control it. It'll be in Europe by the end of CNY if not earlier.

is this the end of humanity?

I agree that India probably does have more than 200,000 cases a day - and that it has many more Covid deaths than reported. Autopsies are rarely done in India, so there's little scope to get a true estimate.

Had enough of this countries sick and twisted media.

Can’t seem to go a day without trying to scare the shit out of the public and homing in on people’s anxieties. The current agenda being a strain that is going to unravel all the work that has been done this year.

Another day and another ‘deadly’ strain. They seem desperate for it to kick off again. I think they just copy and paste the same articles and just change the name from Brazil to South Africa to India and so on.

I’m surprised India (a population of over 1 billion and currently having massive festivities) are only reporting 200k cases a day.

I’d go so far as to say it’s probably the worst country on earth at the moment in terms of Covid. Almost 200k cases daily.

We’ve known this for a few weeks now as factories have been shutting down intermittently.

But nothing was down and now it’s probably too late.

The sad thing is China could be provided with all the information they need to manufacture a far more effective vaccine immediately. Nobody would have an issue if they claimed it as their own invention.

They are however far too concerned about it leaking that they hadn't developed the vaccine themselves, and hence displaying weakness by relying on a western product.

As ever political considerations trumping what would be of benefit to their people (and the people of the world).

Interesting Mike I know I know nothing about the chinks. If lots of other nations have produced effective vaccines then I’m pretty sure China will have one within a few months. How would vaccinations even work throughout China? Nothing like the USA that’s for sure.

It would be pretty apt if China ends up getting fucked hard by their bat virus

The real problem is , is that in reality, China is not a single country (no matter how they want to present that view to the outside world).

It's a collection of pretty autonomous states who will each have their own Covid response strategies, layered on top of those laid down by the CCP.

Inside China, it's not all chocolates & roses. Many regions actively despise direct rule from the CCP. Covid could easily come back to bite the Chinese.

What they need is an effective vaccine.

There’s a reasonable chance that the Chinese have some degree of herd resistance, (if not immunity), to the latest virus because of all the previous corona viruses that have circulated in that part of the world. Let’s hope so, because that means we’ll be a bit more resistant here in Europe too, now we’ve had a better taste of covid than ever before.

Fingers crossed for that T cell memory.

Thousands of virus carriers are waltzing through it's borders (they can just about manage the bridges).
