This coronavirus in China
anyone else worried? 9 dead so far.

CNY soon so the virus will spread very quickly if they cannot control it. It'll be in Europe by the end of CNY if not earlier.

is this the end of humanity?

That cunt Khan bragging about how he has had compulsory masks on TFL for months. Not that you would know that from being on the underground.

Unless you're a bit dim or quite mad like GO, then the obvious reponse is to be over, than under cautious, until you know what you're dealing with.

Joyo - from what I've read on here you wearing a mask would only make others experience of seeing you more pleasant

I like wearing my masks because
1) it makes vulnerable people more comfortable
2)it pisses off anti vaxxers

How many on ventilators though? Cases mean fuck all.

I would be surprised if there were that many on ventilators but that wouldn’t be “ news “

Project fear.

All appears relatively sensible. Act quickly on incoming travrl rather wait until its running wild. They know no one will bother with masks, just a way of saying be more careful until we know more about it.

There's as much chance of omicron being a dead end for the virus as it is to be as bad as it looks on paper, but the smartest scientific minds won't know for weeks , although I'm sure various graduates from the twitter school of medicine will be able to enlighten us much sooner.

"The UK has recorded a further 39,567 new Covid cases, official statistics show." (From the BBC Website).

Enough to fill a single football ground - but not ours.

"south africa are very chilled and laid back .... very few severe cases... mainly un vacced youngsters with achey muscles."

Much of the new variant is linked to one of the university campuses - mostly unvaccinated. (Four universities have made vaccination mandatory for campus access from January...)

The SA scientists are cautious - they've done the right thing in reporting their identification of the new variant and many are saying it is far too early for lockdowns and travel bans.
But there are scientists calling for a stricter lockdown. The country has, technically, been under lockdown since March last year. Ramaphosa is widely expected to announce stricter measures tomorrow night... Masks are mandatory everywhere (I think the fine is R2000)
There have been strong calls from business to either make vaccination mandatory or to ban the unvaccinated from public spaces.
Vaccination is at about 40% although they are now vaccinating 12 - 18 year olds.

The number of cases is rising but hospitalisation and death rates seem steady.

The world response has been an over-reaction given this variant is already in multiple countries on three continents.
