Do you miss West Ham or Football?
I really miss having live football to watch on TV and having conversations with mates about the matches and football in general.

Yet I don't miss West Ham playing at all. All the stress and anger that we invariably encounter when we play most weeks is no longer there.

No arguing with people on forums, no piss taking from all your mates and work colleagues who support better teams than us.

Of course in a few months time when hopefully the world gets back to some sort of normality and games start to get played again I'm sure I will start venting my frustration and anger again about how ineffective/shit Anderson/Haller/Lanzini/Masuaku etc are whilst at the same time rejoicing when we beat Tottenham or Chelsea, but this period of inactivity has made me think I could cope without there being a West Ham but I would struggle without football on TV.

How does everyone else feel?

The decent weather this week has reminded me winter is done. Time for the days of sitting at New Writtle Street with beers and food to hand in what is essentially an open air pub with plenty of good people to while away the day with the bonus of the added distraction of the local lads out on the field showing the rest of the country how it's done.

Don't really miss football at all, haven't done for a decade plus since the kid turned up and I bailed out. The modern game is a pile of old VAR addled shite. Like Gank says though occasionally you'll get caught up in a cracking game of association football and be reminded that it was once, and still could be in an ideal world, the beautiful game.

That's the hard thing about football - accepting what has been lost and of course the clock can never be turned back.

No, not really.
By God I am going to cricket and Test Match Special in particular. It is my Summer soundtrack.

Re: Do you miss West Ham or Football?
I thought I would, but not really. The only thing I noticeably miss is watching a live match on telly, when it's a really good match, and I absolutely do not care who wins.

I used to think doing that was what I did to pass the time but it turns out that was what was giving me the most enjoyment.

I suppose with West Ham you're completely involved, emotionally - and being West Ham means you are disappointed 80% of the time. So rather than missing it, you could use this as a nice respite. Like going on a business trip at the time your wife is really getting on your nerves, absence makes the heart grow fonder and we'll enjoy West Ham more when we're back rather than just going through the motions due to some duty of attachment.

Not really. I don’t care much for watching other teams and West Ham wind me up most of he time.

Miss cricket, but dont miss what football has become.

Actually watched a game from the belarus league last weekend for a sport fix as there was fuck all else on and I feel sorry for their fans having to go and watch that shite!

No, West Ham died years ago anyway (when we left UP) and being honest not missed it one bit. Was looking forward to the Olympics and British Open golf but as for the champions league, Wimblequeer etc - couldn't give a fuck

They say it takes 3 weeks to break a habit and I think many have got out of the routine.
Obviously with more important things to worry about it’s easy to be distracted but would probably be different if you were in Liverpool’s position or in the quarter finals of the Champions league or FA Cup.
In our position most fans I know would happily see the season stopped as it can only end two ways for us .... Catastrophe or Mediocrity

Though I am enjoying the long drawn out pain for Liverpool fans who would have been celebrating a couple of weeks back.

Missed it the first week but now there just seems to be far more important things to be worried about. Its also making me think that following sports intensively horse racing football cycling and golf may not be the most productive use of my time. If it wasnt for the health and finacial worries etc I'd be enjoying this time more than the old days pre-covid

Funny you say that, I was walking along Green Street one night with some mates after we had beaten Tottenham 1-0, Keith Robson had scored with a header, when one bloke walked up and asked us all these questions about the match (score, who scored, any other notable incidents, etc.)

It turned out that he had been to his bird’s but was now heading back home to the wife.

*Perhaps someone on this forum might recognise them self? 😂

Re: Do you miss West Ham or Football?
Like the smoking ban killed the sport of pubs for many smokers so too has the gentrification of football for fans.

For me the Roeder years followed by the Gold, Sullivan Brady then bringing in Avram Grant helped detach many I know from the love of the game couple that with the move of the stadium cemented for many they wouldn't give a penny that could be profited from by the gruesome threesome any more.

It will be interesting what happens to the bread & circuses after this first phase of global shutdown, will fans be so desperate for distractions that they'll lap up the sterile VAR afflicted interpretation with its funny handball rules etc, or will they lose their love and obsession for the game or will the separation of the shutdown make them hang onto the game even more dearly for lack of any alternatives to distract them from what the government is doing to them?

Seeing that DiCanio video yesterday only reminded me I've not smiled that much as a West Ham fan since then, I even look at Harry 'spread betting king' Redknapp's reign with more fondness now than I ever did at the time, I'm mainly thinking of the last chance saloon signings of Hartson and Kitson that last got me excited about the club.

Hardly much to get us champing at the bit waiting for Moyes' revolution to recommence.

Re: Do you miss West Ham or Football?
Yes.

I'm missing all sports to be honest. The weekends are weird, and a lot of what i talk about both in 'real life' and online is about sport, so it's really noticeable.

The only thing resembling sport that's still going on appears to be pro wrestling.

Westside
The renewal date gets earlier and earlier it seems so people don’t have the whole off season to decide to bin it.
There will of course also be a lot of people who come out the other side with their finances looking a bit shit and decide that £800 quid or whatever to watch more Not The Next Level football can’t be justified

Re: Do you miss West Ham or Football?
Not missing west ham at all but missing meeting up with mates for games.

Going to be worse if returns with games behind closed doors and pubs still shut especially when we get relegatex

Football and sport (particularly the Chicago Cubs) yes, West Ham no.
