Lanzini. does he want out or is he genuinely just shit now?

What's his deal?

Where's the player from 2 seasons ago? Used to be busy, skillful, good passer, beating men, quick, alert.

He's an absolute passenger now. Weak, sloppy, hesitant, caught in possession all the time.

I can accept injuries might have robbed him of a bit, but not to this extent.

Was he just a flash in the pan, or has he checked out?

Personally I think Lanzini has been overrated by most of our fans. Yes, he had a great season playing alongside Payet, but Payet made quite a few of our players look better than they really were. Add to this the fact that he has had a major injury. I have also noticed that he always takes a while to play himself back into form after returning from injury, which is a luxury he doesn't have when he's in and out of the side. Unfortunately I think he's on a juicy long contract with big money so he won't be easy to shift. No better than a bit-part squad player now, but decent backup.

He was about to play at the World Cup as Argentina's main playmaker, just behind Messi. Messi had said he enjoyed playing with Lanzini. He was 25 and was about to live out his dream.

The injury took all that away from him and he had to watch the World Cup with his leg in a brace knowing he'd be 29 at the next one and maybe not as good.

I think it's totally killed him mentally and he's never recovered and he won't ever be able to get over it, rightly or wrongly. He's completely gone.

I think a lot of people have short memories and think Lanzini was always great before his injury.

His best season was his first alongside Payet. When Payet left we needed him to step up and take more responsibility and he for the most part he didn't do that which contributed to Bilic losing his job amongst many other factors.

He's always been inconsistent even before the injury.

I think he has lost the acceleration and turn of speed he had which allowed him to pick up a ball and zip past people. Whether this is caused by injury, too much bulking up in the wrong areas or just deteriorated with age I don't know. Confidence is also a factor I think. He is at his best when he does things instinctively. That shot he had last night goes in the top corner or makes the keeper work when he's confident and playing well.

Although not a standout game for him, I thought he was busy last night, put in a shift and got stuck in. The yellow card he got may well have been a sign of his frustration but whilst I'm not sure he will recapture his past form, I don't think he doesn't care or isn't trying.
Anderson on the other hand......

Fair enough but still that is just a extremely small percentage. Also, all of those players play(ed) for a top club and receive proper treatment, while at West Ham every players picks up an injury once a season which can't be a coincidence.

Thought he did ok last night, put in a shift, attitude was good.

He's not helped by the lack of movement in the side, who is he meant to be picking out or playing off with this lump it up to Antonio tactic? Get some more quality in there to get the best out of him.

a knee injury has nothing to do with the following no

not going in for a tackle all season

no work rate off the ball

no desire to attempt a 50/50 challenge or dribble and ride tackles like he used too

not being a goal threat all season or laying on chances
