Haller
If offered our money back, would you sell him or give him another season?

Got to agree with all of that. Shame though as he looked like a possible world beater in those first 4 or 5 games. I'd hazard a guess that he hasn't settled off the pitch and doesn't particularly like the Prem/UK in general.

I just don’t like him. Seems a moody French cunt.

* not putting his head where it could hurt.

Also, I didn't mention his lack of work rate. Which has to be a given if you want to suceed in the Premier League.

Re: Haller
The view on Haller is a difficult one. Just as it has been on Fornals.

Some players take time to settle into a new league and new country. The pandemic was a major disruption too so couldn't have helped.

Fornals has shown patches of being an excellent player. I think he will blossom next year and be a great player for us. With Haller, I am less convinced. For a big man, he gets bullied too easily and he is finding it tough to get into games and dominant the centre backs. Too many times do I see him wandering about and putting his head where it could hurt.

But for much of the season (before the signing of Soucek and Bowen) and with Antonio out injured, I don't think he has had the support he has needed to bring the best out of him.

I think there is a player there and I think he could come good. But if say Kovac at Monaco came in and offered £30m+ for him, then I'd be tempted to let him go and re-invest the money elsewhere. Put it this way, I'd take Watkins over Haller all day long. And he is a championship player.

Re: Haller
Haller is a much better footballer than Antonio. It just shows you how important attitude and workrate is in football. Antonio has plenty of that, Haller has fuck all of it.

Re: Haller
Easy to type "get rid"

We have been doing it with players for years on here. The reality, especially this summer (and autumn), is that is we are not going to get a lot for him and therefore we are not going to get anything much as a replacement.

He scored some goals this season (7) (Antonio with his recent heroics is on 10) and if we have memories beyond the last couple months, Antonio does blow hot and cold and does get injured.

I know the season seems really long but remember it is also his first one here. Let's see what comes - for a bit at least.

Re: Haller
Threesixty this is what I have been saying all along, very few teams can go through a season playing two up front especially when one of them is so immobile it would be absolute madness in this league.

Re: Haller
Hindsight is wonderful isn’t it?

Anderson our most productive creative player last season.
Haller looked a great signing.

I still think Haller is an excellent striker but just doesn’t seem to fit into how we play.

Just move him on

Re: Haller
Antonio has shown him what the role takes. Haller has had his chance to learn when he’s come on and hasn’t shown he’s bothered. Just ducking run, chase and put yourself about. Get rid along with Anderson.

We were linked with Josh Maja before. That would be decent.

Re: Haller
A waste of space, flog him.

Anderson can go too.

Neither are West Ham United players. They couldn't care less.

Re: Haller
Does anyone see a goal in him?

He just looks like centre half playing up front. Wins loads of headers, does fuck all else.

Re: Haller
If he does go, we will need to bring in two strikers.
We can’t just rely on Antonio.

Re: Haller
Stubbo, exactly that. I'll cut him some slack as he has been injured but overall his performances collapsed when we started losing. He clearly is agile for a big guy and can finish but should be using his size a lot better. I'm not sure if Moyes can motivate him and get him to be a big success but he has many of the attributes to be one. Maybe he is having trouble settling off the pitch.

Re: Haller
I'm starting to change opinion on Haller, not because be doesnt have ability, but because he doesn't seem interested.

He isnt sharp and focussed during a game, chasing shadows and failing to anticipate balls to him, doesnt show desire to get in front of his man, and no effort to put himself about.

Without those things, which come down either go attitude or 'footballing IQ', he wkngt be a success here.

My only concern about selling him is just how hard iy is to find a goalscorer. Is the hardest position to recruit for by far and Haller at least when given a chance seems able to hit the target.

I dont buy that he's being "misused". When he's come on recently it's been with two of Bowen, or Antonio or Fornals, and with Soucek busting a get to get up and around too - not remotely isolated.

However, it's a long time ago now but his first 4 or 5 games for us I seem to recall him looking the real deal.

Re: Haller
He played as part of a front 3 with jovic and rebic both right around him.

Good thread on him here about how he was used when he thrived in Germany vs how he's been misused here.

Re: Haller
We bought him on the strength of his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. Does anybody know anything about that?

Any Bundesliga afficionados here?

Re: Haller
Plenty of players especially strikers take a season to acclimate to the premier league, he's shown in certain games when we actually get players in support of him and give him some service to feed on that he can be very effective.
Hopefully with him uptop and 3 of bowen, antonio, fornals, anderson, diangana maybe eze actually running off of him and being there to support him he can show his quality.
