Clubs vote against extending the 5 subs rule for next season
Apparently they have voted to keep it going.
Only 3 clubs voted against it (us, Bournemouth and Villa).

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/jul/29/football-five-substitutes-rule-does-not-benefit-the-big-clubs-and-here-is-why

This guy really spins the whole thing round and makes a case that it doesnt really benefit the big clubs.
The mind set being that its not the quality of player that you can bring on but the "relative" quality of player to the ones that are already on the pitch. i.e. is Higuain that much better than Dybla etc..

Basically if your squad is hugely unbalanced then its a problem.
Which reminded me of our squad. People keep talking about how much depth we had on the bench during the closing games. But when you look at it, they were all far worse than what was the starting 11m regardless of how much "quality" they may appear to have. No wonder we voted against it!

I think that shows how much we really need a clear out to go forward and avoid relegation battles. Our squad is prehaps the most unbalanced in the league.

This is great news - victory for the little guy

Someone just needs to explain to moyes that the rule was changed from making 2 subs to 3 subs 25 years ago as well. He seems to have forgotten.

Argued with the comment about rugby subs spoiling the game.it’s ridiculous and allows clubs to put players on the pitch who are not fit enough to do the full 80 minutes.

Fitness should be a more valuable part of the game and evens things out a bit between the have and have nots.

The ability to bring on five world class plays to turn the game compared to having to bring on players from the youth side.

Good news

I think the vote on ‘implementation’ of VAR is more about the dopey cunts actually using the monitors.

Re: Extending the 5 subs rule for next season
It's a sad state of affairs if you're a PL club and you can't muster enough to have 5 subs of 1st XI quality. Obviously if you have a big injury list then the smaller clubs will struggle with it in that scenario.

There are some additional benefits that apply to everyone:
1. If you're getting tanked you can have a major overhaul (yes 3 subs can already help here)
2. As said earlier, youth players should get more chances
3. Sometimes you get a couple of injuries in the first half, so you'd at least have a couple of spare subs for later on
4. If you have a sending off and want to completely change formation
5. Sometimes you've been so poor in the first half you want to throw at least 3 new players on - at least you'd still have other changes up your sleeve if you did this

All of the above still favour the big teams though :O(

Without a doubt it benefits the big clubs. You now have even more option for making tactical substitutions with regard to yellow cards as well as injuries and form.

Re: Extending the 5 subs rule for next season
Its actually a fucking joke. Totally favours clubs that are rich/successful and disadvantages the rest. Surprising only 3 clubs against it.

"While the substitution is taking place, here's a quick word from our sponsor..."

..."...Oh my!, while you were away, the substitute scored with his very first touch!. We'll try and retrieve some VT of it for you to see later, but, let me tell you. it was a cracking goal, one of the best this season..."

Re: Extending the 5 subs rule for next season
It will make the PL even less competitive. No wonder the big clubs love it. Replacing one out-of-form international with another international gives the most affluent clubs added assurance that they will beat their poorer rivals. The rich clubs will add to their squads the best players from the rest of the league, who will get a guarantee of appearances, even if they are only for half a match at a time.

i put this into the same category as the ridiculous "replacement" shambles with rugby- has totally changed the way the game is played and will allow the bigger clubs to more tactically twist outcomes.

"man city could bring on foden, mahrez, bernado silva, gundogen and jesus when chasing a game,"

And who would they be bringing off?"

What an odd viewpoint

They'd be bringing off world class players for other world class players. Smaller teams would be bring on people of drastically lower quality than the people on the pitch. Surely this is pretty easy to understand??

On a good day our first 11 can hope to match or even beat a top team. Can you imagine how our second 11 would do against Chelsea or City? It would be a slaughter every time
