Winston Churchill - A man ahead of his time?
I've long considered his contribution to the defeat of Germany to be overstated, and still do.

However, in a speech made after the war, he made a quite breath-taking (pun intended) statement.

"A Socialist State once thoroughly completed in all its details and aspects… could not afford opposition. Socialism is, in its essence, an attack upon the right of the ordinary man or woman to breathe freely without having a harsh, clumsy tyrannical hand clapped across their mouths and nostrils. "

Of course, at least ostensibly, Britain does not currently have a socialist government, though it could reasonably be argued that the amount of money being thrown around in recent months is classic socialism.

However, the SHEER PROPHECY lies in the words " ...harsh, clumsy tyrannical hand clapped across their mouths and nostrils. "

The speech is discussed here, with the actual speech at the end.

I'm sure Sold will lap it up.

Imagine if your life was based purely on coming onto a website to tell everyone what they should be doing, and then cursing the fact that you even come on here at all, but for some reason, can't stop yourself.

That, and shagging a bird that used to be a bloke.

I appreciate that, and I look forward to your next YT link with a speech from 100 years back.

I shall add your name to the list of dullards that appear incapable of working out that the thread is not about socialism.

Manuel's not on that list. He's in a list all of his own.

It's sad isn't it. Imagine getting so excited about a speech made decades ago by an ex politician, that you go to a football forum of all places and start a topic about it? What a fucking life!

A thread highlighting a prediction made 80 years ago about something which ended 30 years ago by a man who died 55 years ago.
And don't get me started on the Rule Britiania bollocks , this site is as marooned in the past as the fucking club is

Communism was defeated with the fall of the Berlin wall, you demented right wing conspiracy case. Liberal capitalism (or 'cultural Marxism' as some spoon-fed divs laughably call it) has had a free reign ever since.

He helped Stalin and the Communists win WW2, thereby allowing the 70 years of Cultural Marxism which has led to West to the absolute shambles it is today. Globalisation, LGBTQ, BLM, America on the verge of civil war etc

Well I have re-read your post (but not the links) Looks like it's all about the terrible effects of socialism restricting freedom which is what usually happens so I don't follow...

There is no such thing as a one size fits all ideology

It IS possible to have a free market economy and ring fence Education, Healthcare, Transport and to a reasonable extent Housing. All of these things would ensure a stronger free market economy robust enough to take a kick in the balls now and again...

I guess it takes a certain amount of emotional maturity to realise this but most people like to make excuses...it's life-affirming for them.

I suggest you reread my OP. Hopefully, second time around, you'll understand socialism is NOT the main point.

Maybe we should have made a deal.

Brushes teeth with Braun electric toothbrush, Braun electric shaver, puts food in Bosch oven before jumping into BMW.

Btw who won the war?

Your point about Galipoli is a bit unjust. I know that it's a popular opinion but if you actually study it closely Churchill planned a daring campaign that should have worked. In the event the generals and admirals watered down his plans to then of course, blamed him rather than their own delays and weaker forces...

On the main point, socialism is and always will go badly wrong in any large scale nation. Churchill did not need to be prescient to comprehend this

Socialism will never work all the time human beings are self-determining. Mind you it seems that we are breeding human beings that are mentally unfit for anything other than living off the state...

antly, he didn't just talk a good war, he actually fought in one, he was in the last ever cavalry charge and he escaped from a prison camp and found his way back to the front lines

He was no pen pushing deskbound politician
