Rule, Brittania!
Good to see the new BBC Director General has come in and made a good decision already. He has U-TURNED their previous decision to BAN lyrics for Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory at this year's Last Night of the Proms.

Hurrah!

zeb, I was a choirboy as well, I loved singing descants and still to this day love listening to them.

Take a listen to the descant on this hymn at Diana's funeral:

Jerusalem is a cracking song.
It was WIlliam Blake railing against industrialisation and labour conditions and hoping for a return to past timeswhen things were simpler and more connected to the land.
Many people have used these sentiments for bad things but it is not far away from the message of the Green Party.
The be all and end all is that Parry's musical setting makes it a bloody uplifting song to belt out.
I used to be a choir boy (sung on the Queen's official silver jubillee album) and Rule Brittania always felt a bit weird in sentiment as did St Matthew's passion (it massively anit-semitic).
Carmina Burana and Zadok the Priest were the absolute best. For all the gigs I did as rock/psych/punk/funk/reggae/metal musician those two are up there.

Crass.

You know the rules mate.

The one thing that'll never stop puzzling tho is,as we know, the UK is a bigoted hellhole where foreign folk dare not show themselves on the streets after dark yet hundreds risk their lives daily to get here from afar.

Funny ol game.

Billy

Another point of reference - never seen a whisper about the atrocities on the West Bank either

Strange that, albeit we are sexist pigs, thankfully though, not as bad as the old rapscallion Coughers, he is a right misogynist

Eerie.

Stab in the dark here but i think it may have something to do with the fact that it isnt white folk lobbing stones at the Doris's?

Exactly.

There are some countries that still stone women to death for adultery, why isn't the world doing it's bollocks and dropping to collective knees every time that happens?

Looks like it could be as early as November that not owning a TV licence stops being a criminal offence.

Debs do fuck off with your conflation allegations

You are the expert of stringing your causes of the day into one ill conceived and poorly delivered potpourri of indignation and self righteous congratulation

If you are that bothered about Septic plod brutality head west and spout off, it has fuck all to do with us

Re: Rule, Brittania!
In much the same way we dont know if the motive for the murder was a racist one.

Seems the BLM have already decided the motive tho.

Re: Rule, Brittania!
Debs.

Iv'e yet to meet a person, patriitic or otherwise who disnt recognise the fact that much if what we enjoy has its origins in other cultures overseas. Do such people actually exist? Your previous post suggests that they do but you are not among them as you sre aware that vindaloo wasnt invented in Liverpool and reggae music didnt spring up in Kent?

Darlo Debs 7:57 Thu Sep 3
Re: Rule, Brittania!
Trying to.conflate the two.is just ignorant and an excuse for a right wing rant.

To start with Floyds murderer hasnt been tried yet so we don't know his motive isn't a racist one.

2nd as already mentioned the murderers of Andrew Harper are having their sentences reviewed. Its only by the luck that someone filmed it that Floyd is getting any justice at all.

Two very different things for sure

One was here and one the other side of the world yet fuckwits want coerce all to take a knee here, in support of a Marxist anti societal mob of interweb based activists

You can stick that where your Griggs won't flake

Re: Rule, Brittania!
O1bb see my comment below...many people left and right get the 2 confused.

There are things about being British i am.immensely proud of but recognise that even some of those are things we have through our embracing of other cultures down the years.

Re: Rule, Brittania!
Sadly Moncs there arn't enough like you. These days, many see a declaration of patriotism as another way of saying racism. Some cant believe that you can love your country and not have bigoted views at the same time.
