That would be a good team but Johnson hasn’t done enough to get in front of Fredericks I reckon

Re: Team for Newcastle
I don’t see it that way Lee. It’s having a formation to suit our poor defensive full backs.

Both are good offensive players for different reasons so need a back three to cover better. Plus Andy Carroll might play...

I'm not a fan of changing our formation to shoe horn in our 2 worst players (Fredericks and Masuaku).

That's my team, not Moyes'.

I don't rate any of our full backs, we always leak goals and I think Haller is a lazy cunt.

So I would play 3 at the back to steady us and hopefully keep the goals out.

3 at the back means Fredericks and Masuaku have cover when they are out of a defensive position. It allows Rice to get on the ball and bring the ball out.

It allows Fredericks and Masuaku to get forward which they are better at rather than defending. Masuaku also has pace compared to Cresswell and can get up and down the pitch quicker. He is also left footed and brings balance on that side compared to Johnson.

Cresswell would get destroyed against Saint Maximim and Johnson was awful against Bournemouth. At least Fredericks and Masuaku have pace and are better offensively than the other two.

I think Rice will help Diop keep his concentration and get him through the game.

I'd have Fornals in the centre instead of Noble as Noble just slows takes the pace out of the team and slows us right down. Fornals and Soucek have bags of energy in the middle.

Yarmolenko and Bowen have goals in them and Antonio deserves to keep his central role. Bowen and Antonio have the pace to get in behind and Yarmlenko is a clever player and has the creativity and vision to pick a pass. Haller needs to prove his worth to get back in.

I like your team Cheesbgt, good idea to put Antonio back on a wing and Haller up front.

Not ideal, but it's hard to justify starting Anderson and Haller over the likes of Noble. I hope those two come good this season, but they'll have to fight for their places in the starting lineup.

Anderson to replace Noble and Haller to replace Antonio.

GR - no way he's going 3 at the back having not even toyed with the idea in pre-season.

Johnson's mare against Bournemouth will be too fresh in the memory for him to be anything more than on the bench. The rb slot is Fredericks" to keep or lose. Not sure if he'll play Fornals or Noble in that AM role. Haller - new season, new opportunity, but I'm not sure how long he will be given to prove himself.

Have to say I ‘d love to see Antonio and Haller start. Won’t happen, but I’d drop Noble and put Haller in.

Fabianski
Johnson Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
Bowen Rice Soucek Fornals
Haller Antonio

Would have been better with Diangana in for an out of position Fornals, but lets no go there...

Re: Team for Newcastle
A shocking lack of pace and forward players for a winnable home game. And apart from Ogbonna that is probably the worst back 4 in the PL.

Haller will start for me. He's a 40 mil quid investment, if we are too ever get a tune out of him he needs to be given a chance to get a run and some confidence at the beginning of this season.
