Yes agree, Teams that sit deep, 9 behind the ball and let us keep it are a totally different challenge. Then you need to open them up, stretch them with no space and time in midfield on the break, The formation we used against Wolves was about counter attacking against a team that will dominate possession. Its why it worked well against Arsenal and has the best chance of success in this next run of games against the top 6 sides.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Custard played Cresswell in a back three in his first spell.. and Cresswell was decent tbf.
He was very comfortable against wolves..
Hope we beat the scousers weds.. and can go for a cup.

Steady.
I think that is Ngakia's personally.
Looking forward to seeing more of Harrison Ashby

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Breaks down a lot doesn't he.
Shame cos he has been looking decent recently.
Like Arthur on the left , in a back four it's a no no
Both look good as wingback.
Cresswell and Arthur work well together

Think the 3 at the back works for what we have, but I don't think it will work against sides that invite us on at home.. We lack a playmaker

Should sign Ngakia of Watford, been superb in his first 3 matches and fans raving about him !!

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Let's see - he's coming off the back of two hamstring injuries and he's 20 years-old. He's made five appearances for West Ham, so I'll not be jumping on his back just yet.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Probably comes from his lack of technical skills on the ball and him not being particularly quick or attack minded.

Apart from that I make you spot on.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Folks, Johnson started out life as a winger/attacking midfielder.

So I'm not sure where this bit about him only being like a traditional FB comes from. In theory, he should (and does) have a decent attacking sense. Give the kid some time.

Shame for Fredericks, as he has been playing better, and might have been able to improve more.

But, suddenly, we have cover, and shouldn't miss him too much.

You've got to admit he's quick.

Shame, he was playing well.
But yes Miike, good opportunity for Johnson. I’ll look forward to that.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Yes, it's a shame because the wing-back role seems to suit him better and he was looking like more of a player. Yes, he has his faults but he's nowhere near as bad as some of you make out. As for Johnson, the jury's still out. He does look more of a traditional fb and I don't think he will offer much going forward. I can't get out of my mind the absolute mare he had against Bournemouth so he has a lot to prove, for me.

Having said all that, from the little I have seen of young Harrison Ashby I would say he looks a real prospect and will end up being a better player than both of the others.

Shame for the lad, he's a better pick than Johnson but then again he should be. Time for the young man to stand up and show his stuff, not the easiest games upcoming

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Shame , thought he'd been doing a good job. 1st game forget the rest of them,he did a good job Sam maximin . Then arsenal and pre injury looked a much improved player.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
It's a shame to see a player who was improving pick up an injury but on the positive side, these short term injuries are how younger players gain the experience they need to get on.

Johnson got more minutes than I thought yesterday, didn't really notice him which I guess is a good sign. I like this lad, seems to have a good attitude.

I can't stay I was gutted when he went off. I like this Johnson fella.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Johnson strikes me as more of a traditional RB. Will be interesting to see how he does as a wingback.

Re: Fredericks out for four weeks
Fred is fucking abysmal going forward, passes to the opposition more than his own team mates making us vulnerable to the counter attack.

Or hesitates and stops our momentum.
