There have been so many disappointments in West Ham signings.

This is the biggest positive surprise in any signing I can remember at West Ham - I thought he'd be abject shite but I am entirely wrong on that.

Interesting, Eerie - hadn't realised he was one of Pearce's recommendations. That's a good call by the fella. Like many, I assumed he was a Sully special: cheap, cheerful and turned up at the training ground unbeknown to the manager!

He's not in the best form of his career, he's always been a very good defender, he's just unfashionable. But he is very well respected by ex pros who played at the back.

And he wasn't a Sully special, he's come from the recommendation of Stuart Pearce, who picked him for the GB team in the 2012 Olympics.

He's not a world beater, but he's exactly what we need, and I'd choose him every day over Diop. Unfortunately there's a few who are desperate for him to make a mistake, and he will do at some point as they all do, but so far apart from a couple of misplaced passes he hasn't put a foot wrong in 4 games.

You will probably find those posters are the same one who watch the game looking out for his mistakes, so they can still label him "error prone", despite 4 clean sheets.

Cholo - me and my old man were saying the same yesterday.

Haven't had that type of defender since Ginge left and dare I say it Dawson is slightly more solid.

I loved how he got retribution on Wood and didn't even give away a free kick, didn't really hear a peep from the kiwi clogger after that and he ended up getting subbed.

Speaking of which, we've always had problems with big, aggressive, less mobile strikers like Wood, Glenn Murray and going further back Kevin Davies. So nice to see someone putting them in their place.

What I liked about yesterday was that he put Wood and Barnes on the deck. Burnley bully teams and him and Oggy did the bullying. What a long way we have come.
Like others thought it was an awful signing. I think he has errors in him but you cannot fault I’m his work rate, attitude and no nonsense ability

There is still room at the top level for old fashioned stoppers, still plenty of them about and worth their weight in gold. Leicester picked up Jonny Evans for nothing and is a stalwart for them. Dawson is looking like a replacement for Collins.

Awful signing.

Must have been the only choice and not in a good way. A friend reckons he's fifth choice CB at Watford and is the 'thickest defender I've ever seen'. Apparently, he's a penalty magnet. Also, not in a good way.

I expect he was told it was Dawson or nothing, and he will have to try and put a positive spin on it when asked. I'd be surprised if he were personally over the moon but of course it's part of his job to have to not say 'I didn't want him'.

Craig Dawson is about as inspiring as a warm pint of coronavirus.

He has been given the No.15 shirt, he is in good company with other players to wear the number 15 including Rigobert Song, Matthew Upson and Gary Breen.

It's just desperation, pure and simple.

It reminds me of when we signed an ageing Andy Melville. At least back then we had the excuse of having been relegated.

So we spend the entire window trying to shift some dead wood and reduce the wage bill and we go out and sign this fella.

If he plays, then we know we are in trouble

Most scoffed at this signing as almost being a token effort by the club (me included) but fair dues to Moyes, another player who has turned out to be more than capable at this level, 30 million on Tarkowski and no doubt big wages or a loan with option to buy for peanuts and manageable wages. What looked like a Sullivan special has turned into a very astute bit of business by Moyes.

It's weird that people want to keep highlighting apparent mistakes he is making. He misplaced a pass ffs, every player on the pitch did at some point.

He's turning out to be a superb bit of business. 4 games 4 clean sheets, have some of that.
