Resurgence of Cresswell
Gone under the radar but worth noting he's been a huge part of our recent form, seems to have formed a great understanding with Masuaku

Great to see after being completely written off. Down to Moyes again?

Southgate likes to bring in youngsters (and rightfully so), so can’t imagine a 31 year old Cresswell getting a call up.

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
He's always been a decent defender, he seems so much more comfortable in a back 3.

Won't be long before he's called up, if he continues.

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
Don't see why Cresswell in the England squad is a terrible shout. If you are playing a back 3 he has shown consistently he is decent in that role.

He has good awareness, can tackle and does get forward and when he is on form like at the moment has really good delivery from deep. No way he is a left back now and realistically not a starter for England either as his lack of height and pace would be exposed but a good option if chasing a game and not wanting to change shape.

When you look at some of the shit like Eric Dier that is picked every match in defense then I find it hard to laugh off someone who is actually playing pretty well.
I think his age will mean he is overlooked anyway and given his form dipped dramatically after his last selection for England then maybe it's better he isn't selected.

Of course. Apologies.

I didn't say that Russ, I said you don't have to be that good to play for England in defence at the moment- hence it's overhyped

Aaron Cresswell confident West Ham can build on impressive form amid mentality shift under David Moyes

You'd be mad not to target him. I'm pretty sure Spurs did the same with Kane, and he ended up outjumping Cresswell for one of his goals.

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
He was definitely targeted by Fulham with there big centre forward.

"I think some over you are overhyping playing for England to be honest."

No. People aren't. I don't actually think anyone has even said he should play for England. It got mentioned on MOTD.

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
With big centre forwards getting rarer I think a big centre half like ogbonna and a player either side like cresswell who can play a bit seems the way forward. Can you imagine if we had a rightsided player doing the same job as cresswell how more fluid we’d be. Can’t really imagine balbuena doing it

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
I think some over you are overhyping playing for England to be honest. Apart from Alexander Arnold the rest are probably in the same quality bracket as Cresswell, Especially at left back with Chillwell and Shaw forever injured.

Who else else there? Rose??

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
Ironically it was Coufal passing back to a fairly advanced Balbuena, who then put in a Cresswell-style diagonal cross, that led to our goal against Fulham. Not sure if Diop would have done that.

Definitley think he's improving.

Although when I heard 'Cresswell for England' I rolled over in my cot and pissed my nappies hard with laughter.

Trundle

Coufal has it really tough down that right hand side. If Bowen isn’t on top of his game, coufal generally covers the whole flank alone with the general behind him, who isn’t really in the team for his pace or attacking ability. I think teams will start to realise that doubling up on their left flank is a way of exposing us a bit now as we lack oace in coufal and balbuena - I wonder how long it will take for diop to come back in

Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
Also for the opposition full back it can become a nightmare as you have Arthur, Fornals and then Cresswell operating in your area. It’s why Cresswell can look so dangerous as he comes on the overlap late and they are outnumbered.

JOHNNY V 10:23 Mon Nov 9
Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
How Moyes uses Cresswell in a back three is identical to how Southgate has been using Walker but just on the other side, Walker is allowed to maraud forward and overlap with the wing back safe in the knowledge that they can revert to a back 4. That’s why managers like to play two traditional centre half’s in that sense and one like Cresswell or Walker that is great going forward. For us it also allows Fornals to tuck in from the left.

Lee Trundle 10:21 Mon Nov 9
Re: Resurgence of Cresswell
Exactly Chill. don't forget Fornals does a job as well at protecting that side.

I see some where having a go at Coufal on the match thread because he had a tough game against Robinson and Lookman.

Shame he doesn't have 2 ahead of him to protect him.

Because some tit on MOTD said so? Will Arthur be babysitting him for England too?

The shit you read on here.
