West Ham plot January move for Luka Jovic, Leicester City keen
Olly Dawes
According to The Mirror (01/11, p61), West Ham United and Leicester City are both reading to make January moves for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.
It’s claimed that Real want to transfer list Jovic in January, and will make him available for a loan with a view for a permanent move at the end of the season.
West Ham and Leicester are now thought to be plotting their move for Jovic, in the hope of rescuing the Serbian from his Spanish hell.
Jovic, 22, joined Real in the summer of 2019, having smashed 36 goals in 75 games at Eintracht Frankfurt, but he’s had a torrid time under Zinedine Zidane.
He has managed just two goals in 31 games for Real, and given that Zidane clearly has no plans for him, it’s time to move on.
Jovic would be an exciting capture for West Ham, especially as Jovic cost €65million (£59million) less than 18 months ago, and also because of his history with Sebastien Haller.
They were exceptional together in the Frankfurt attack during the 2018-19 season, combining for 47 goals in that campaign, dominating German football.
Manuel Baum, then of Augsburg, branding Jovic and Haller ‘sensational’ alongside Ante Rebic in the Frankfurt attack back in 2018, and West Ham landing him would give David Moyes the chance to rekindle that connection.
