Ireland Player Tests Positive
Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Browne has tested positive for coronavirus having played against England on Thursday.

Preston's Browne, 25, played the full 90 minutes of his side's 3-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium.

The Football Association of Ireland said he had "no close contacts" and all other players and staff have tested negative.

Here is a news story that is being massively underplayed. How is it possible for a player to play 90mins and to not have contact with team mates and opposition and how is it possible for al involved to be the only people to have to have an instantaneous test and now 14 day development of symptoms period?

Surely both teams have to self isolate for 14days no?

El Scorchio.

Depends how often they are tested, I suppose.

I'm not sure there's anything in the definition that Debs posted that would specifically contradict GO's opinion that, 'it's just a cold'. It does, from that description, appear to be a form of cold, albeit a particularly virulent one.

Still, at least we've established it's not 'flu.

Bit fucking stupid to let footballers travel all over Europe when most of the continent is in lockdown as well, always going to be asking for trouble letting these pointless friendlies and a few qualifiers go ahead.

And its not like the season is congested enough already! Should have postponed the internationals and European cups, concentrated on getting games played in domestic leagues and then when lock downs get eased, played the Internationals, CL, Europa etc.

I'd have thought the same would have applied to our squad when Diop, Cullen and Moyes tested positive. How would it be possible for only those three and to not infect anyone else? Somehow they managed though.

“ You may have had Covid and got lucky that it didnt kill.you”

Given the chances of dying from it, this is a gross distortion of language. In particular, the word ‘lucky’.

Re: Ireland Player Tests Positive
I have had a few friends that mentioned that possibility also and wouldn't entirely rule it out only my toes look alright from here in this light... but then perhaps you may understand my own position in that my memory extends beyond the day the TV told us all to be terrified of catching a cold as we all were certain to die from it.

After a few months I realised my first suspicions were proved correct and the fear was overstated.

I wouldn't expect the world to stop on account of what I had though my symptoms do seem far worse than what is going around now, just keep away from those who would suffer terribly if they were to catch it like the old and infirm.

Which I did, no masks, no crashing of the economy, no locking up grandma, curfews and 2 metre warnings in car parks, I just kept a respectful distance from others tried not to cough all over everyone and never licked any door handles.
As I've done when with the flu.cold since a young lad.

Yet nowadays such an opinion on how to go about when suffering with the cold or flu is classed as "trying to be edgy" or "crazy", "extremist" even.
Fuck me, you'd have hated what my nan had to say about a cold back then, used to mock grandad calling it "man flu" and would tease him about it till he had enough and fucked off down the pub.

I already explained how i caught a far worse* flu last year and wouldn't have wished it on anyone.
I took precautions to limit the spread at the time, and so far I never killedvgrandma nor did the world need to be locked up on acvount of my flu.

No one even cared back then...

"Just fucking perhaps GO, it could be because of your insistence that Covid 19 is no more than a cold."
Debs post of its official description suggests it is, no opinion of my own involved in that one.

"50,000 people don't die in 8 months from colds do they?"
Sadly it does happen sometimes and always has TMTY and I'm afraid always will.

https://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/urgent-care/flu-and-cold-weather-contributed-towards-50000-excess-winter-deaths-last-year/

Which is why there are others who do remember this that are scratching their heads at the way the public are being gaslit over this season's particularly nasty bout of cold/flu going around right now.

"Because Goldie you are wilfully ignoring that it as much like the flu as a cold in it symptoms and transmission but most importantly until two.weeks after you get it you won't know if what you have is the SARS form that could be deadly , hence the importance of the measures taken."
You're the one willfully ignoring the very text you posted Debs.
According to what you posted, here is no difference, the same as any other cold or flu, if after two weeks and it still hasn't gone as is so common with colds these days, then you've got a particularly bad strain of it and then doctors tended to take it more seriously.
Which is why your GP always will say
"Come back in two weeks if the cold still hasn't gone"

As for this shit
"Dismissing it as people dying from a mere cold is crass beyond wprds."
My own family and friends have died from a "mere cold", calling it a cold./flu in no way diminishes their deaths you emotionally manipulative dozy blurt

Read what Ernie/TMTY/Debs posted, then read my reply and realise you're laughing at the fact the official description of covid states every symptom is the same as the cold and flu.

I don't think this is funny anymore, it's now literally the movie Idiocracy in reality.
